So i have a 90 blazer and i destroyed my old center console. I want a new one but i DO NOT want a tuffy or that style. Do not like how they work look or function.

I want a black one, as to mach my interior, and i need it to lock.

I have heard you can get stock ones and convert them to lockable but not sure about this and my concern would be how to change the color to black with it being able to handle the abuse. I have tried painting but with little success since it is so easily scratched. However i am open to idea and tips on how to accomplish this or someone who restores them.

My other option is LMC makes a truck center console that is black and lockable. I would have to fabricate mounting brackets but that should be easy. I just have heard bad things about there consoles but no one says why except price.

So how would you go about it?

Mines a sub box. I love it. It has no storage capabilities though.

Mine is stock and lockable. No conversion needed. Mine's an 88, the console should be the same, though I'm not sure if there's a difference in when the locks were available. Maybe it was just an option yours didn't have?

I've got no input on making one black, other that I've used all the right stuff before for dying similar plastics, and I wouldn't trust it to hold up to the wear a center console would see. Are there no stock ones out there that are black? There's gotta be a year or two at least that there was one available in black.

LMC is just hit or miss. I have no experience with their consoles, but some of their stuff is just junk. Some's pretty good too, though. If you've seen bad reviews on their consoles, maybe that's a miss item.

Ya i was told a locking center console was an option you could get. I was going to call the dealership and see if i could get the parts. Then maybe getting a stock box and painting it. but the LMC one is only 100 so only if i can get a stock box for really cheap then i would go that rough. but thanks for the input.

Yah my 89 has a lockable one too.

I have seen quite a few in the wrecking yards. If you can't find one I could go searchin

Hey thanks blazinzuk. im planing on checking my local yard but if no luck i will pm you!

So i found a center console and cleaned it up and got it painted looks good so hopefully it will last but i was unable to find a key for it and it was the only one in the yard.

Dose any one know the part number to order a new locking mech.

Also now i have one key to unlock my doors and one to work the back window and now another for the console. is there a way to get it all to work again with the same key?

I would have to find a blazer with all three and the keys and switch it to mine uh?

you can have a locksmith redo the tumblers in the locks...

fyi, the LMC one cannot be painted if i remember correctly. Did you maybe save your old one and can pirate the lock mechanism from it?

ryoken: What exactly dose that involve? I just take him the 4 locks and the key i want to work and he can make the same key work for the doors, rear glass and console? Can he do it with the locks in the doors or do they need to be removed? Sorry i know nothing about locks and keys really.

454Sub: My old one didn't have a lock becuase it had no lid and was cracked so i tossed it long ago. im not sure what they look like it just looks like this one has a key hole in the center so im guessing that's it.

if you wanted the console lock to be the same as the door, ya take the door key and the console lock, and he'll change the tumblers to match the door key..

You might be able to make all the locks the same. I did it on my '70 that has an '87 column in it. From what I know, the tailgate lock would be the most difficult to remove for the re-key. I may be wrong on that, but I have changed lots of door locks and worked on enough columns that I would pull those to change. Then you would have one key! I would have a locksmith look at the keys and locks before pulling them out.

Thanks guys you really helped me out here! Just to fill you in on my plan now i am going to order new door locks from LMC or the dealership and try to find/order new console lock and a second console lock for the glove box. Then take the tailgate key which is the original key and have him change all them to mach then i will install the matched locks in there correct locations. This will leave two key one for ignition and one for the rest.

I will first check with the locksmith about possibility tho.
