Center console supplies?

I am brainstorming about some ideas on a center console but have a question on where to get some of the electrical supplies.

1. I am thinking of using some of the flat rocker switches with pictures on them. I know I can get them at bus and RV dealers, but is there anywhere online to order them? Like being able to order individual pieces i.e. a rocker with a fan picture, one for lights etc.

2. Also want to get some indicator lights or leds to indicate when a switch is on. I have one in my current truck the PO put in that installs like a toggle switch. Where can I buy more?

3. Wiring? Where is a good place to buy wiring in 10, 12, 14 guage in 100ft spools. Different colors would be nice, but not really neccessary.

I tried my local Radio Shack, but apparently they don't really carry anything but cell phones now a days.

LED indicator lights can be picked up at any Radio Shack. They have multiple colors, so you can easily identify different switches by their color. When I do my custom bezel I will be using different colors for Brake warning, turn signals, cruise control, high beam, and 4x4. This will be required since none of the original dash will be used.

As for the wiring, try delcity, they have 100' spools and pretty decent prices, as well as a good selection of colors.

You can also just pick up some plain toggle switches and mask the design you want then paint it right on to the switch. It is pretty much how they are done anyway.

Well i was looking online at the Radio Shack site and found the led indicators. It is odd, the closest one to me is more of a phone/radio store than real electronic parts. maybe just cause it is a small one. I'll have to drive across town to another one today to see if they have what I want instock.

Hey thanks for that Delcity link. They seem to have everything there I need. Minus the pictured rockers, but they have they same style rockers it looks like. I would just need to find a different way to label the switches.

Those switches have a pretty bad rep.. certainly not the quality of a Contura...

But again, as you mentioned probably many times before, we can't get them unless we order them in batches.

Ryoken, I'm not sure IIRC, but you also mentioned you would be a possible vendor to supply the conturas? It's been a really long time since you last talked about how difficult it is to get Contura switches. Refresh my memory please. :D

let me see if I can churn out a quick overview of Contura's deal... 73k5blazer also has extensive research into, and runs Conturas.... Rootbreaker runs a few as well... 90% of the boats I work on daily run em...

pictures on conturas are called legends.. yes, they are marine related, but most apps on a truck can be covered with a little imagination... the list is quite extensive...

but yes, you cant just order any switch in any config with any legend.. now if it's a 5 g order, yup you can get anything.. the average joe has to go thru other means.. there are a couple avenues for that.. there are a couple websites that carry certain switch styles with legends, BUT the selection is VERY limited...

you can also look thru their "dealer supply" list to see what individual vendors have in stock... but you have to remember, the combo # for SPST, DPDT, illumination, legend, etc are in the thousands.. pretty endless, so, chances of a dealer having what your looking for exactly are pretty slim.. I've done it, and searched... even if you did find everything you wanted, you'd probably be ordering from 10 different vendors...

now, all that being said, if you can forego the legends, any switch config is available in any of their illuminations thru many places.. Waytek being who I get most of mine from.. as for the dealer gig, I'm kinda waiting till I actually get Dashworks up and running, then working switch panels, etc into the product line..

personally, i was more than willing find an alternate way to label stuff in order to run the quality of their switches.. for me, in the end, I think I'll like my labeling better than legends, as it will match what I'm doing with the glovebox..

for those who actually haven't seen my stuff or heard me babble about it... one avenue of approach... I will be doing the copper color of my truck in small vinyl decal lettering to label each circuit in the glovebox, or possibly hand lettering if my sign/boat name friend thinks it'll be tricker or better...

then labeling above each contura in my dash and new console in the same copper...
