Just installed some new ceramic (sp?) brakes on the Burb and they smell strong, is this normal after first install?

i do not like my ceramics at all.
i have noticed no odor, but when its humid out they are dangerously "grabby"

like, nose to the windshield "grabby"
at least for the first 6 brake applications
i see no benefit besides the red colored brake dust. they are trash

I put organic pads on my blazer its stops alot better, its not grabby, doesn't squeak even with alot of city and highway start and stops and no black brake dust... oh and they where $13.99 /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

i put ceramic pads on my 98 K3500 and to say they are grabby when cold in an understatment. Also i hate how squeeky they are /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif when applying the brakes around town they sound like SH!T. i will be replacing mine soon

organic isnt ceramic... organic are dangerous for front pads.. specially on f/s rigs.. they glaze when hot and become slippery

To bring it back on topic somewhat... Yes, they do have a smell to them when first installed. Just did this on a friends DD and it did the same thing. Smell goes away in a day or two...

What kind of pads did you use? There are a lot of so called Ceramic brake pads on the market right now that are really an organic pad, "Enhanced" with some Ceramic friction. They're nowhere near the quality of a true full Ceramic and the majority of the complaints I've heard with Ceramics stem from cheap ceramics.

If you didn't pay at least $70 for them, they were probably cheap, ceramic enhanced pads.

Top of the line Napa $79.00

Those are the good ones. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Rarely hear a complaint about those.

What kind of rotors? What condition are they in?
