Hi All,

Has anyone in California done the CFM-Tech TBI Mods on a truck that needs to pass smog? I wouldn't think more air flow and higher fuel pressure would cause the truck to fail smog, but I found this blurb on their website: "[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]All products in this website are not legal for sale or use on CA pollution controlled vehicles. Check local emission laws for your application."

So, I can't even have the parts shipped directly here is issue number one, but I'm also not so sure I would want to install them if I'd have to undue everything every two years to pass smog.

Thanks for any input.

All that just means they haven't done the work to get an exemption sticker, so you can't claim to the CARB that the parts are guaranteed to work.

I'm sure you *can* have the parts shipped to you, but if the truck fails smog with them on, the seller isn't liable and you have to deal with it. That's a very standard disclaimer.

It also means the smog tech will fail it on the visual because the part will not have the CARB number on it.
Not worth it in CA unless you don't smog it.

It is a modified stock piece, are they even smart enough to see that stuff?

That's what I was thinking... The only thing all that visually obvious would be the salad bowl I assume.

There is a place here in town known to be a bit lax about smog, so I'm not too worried about the visual inspection.

If worst came to worst I think I can always take it to the local community college and have the referee do it.

I don't foresee you having a problem if the only noticeable thing is the salad bowl. As long as all the hose connections are in place, the bowl wont mater. Also, Summit Racing sells me all kinda of parts "not CA legal", it just says it on the order sheet etc.

They noticed my TBI spacer from them and failed me because I had no CARB sticker. I had to take it off and re smog it. You could try and paint it black, It stands out, or take it off for smog. Takes like 10 minutes.

Thanks for the feedback, I think I will get the parts and roll the dice with passing smog.

New question: Does anyone want a 12 pack of their favorite beer? Since CFM-Tech won't ship to CA, I'll need to ship it to some other state and then have it sent to me. Obviously I'll paypal you however much the shipping is + whatever your favorite 12 pack costs.

They shipped it to me in Cali. about 6 months ago. They wont ship to you? Are you sure about that? If so, Thats weird.

Their website denied me when I tried to place my order online. Also, I've tried calling them a couple dozen times, and have never gotten an answer, or a call back from the message I left. While searching CK5 I read a lot of posts recently how they are basically impossible to get a hold of nowadays.

Did you place your order online?

I did. I also called him. When my rig was on the smog machine and the tech said it is going to fail due to the spacer, I called CFM right then and talked to the owner. He stated they dont need the CARB#.

Wow, speak of the devil... I tried calling and got an answer. Also, they said they would ship here. So, order placed!

He said the only reason it may fail smog is the visual... which was the general consensus here.

I do in fact have a 700R4. Adjusting the TV cable is the one thing I'm a little concerned about, given how bad it can screw up the transmission if done improperly. I've never adjusted it before, I basically want to keep the same angle it is at before the TBI gets raised up? Someone mentioned that CFM-Tech sends along some parts along with Power Plate to accommodate this?

Thanks for the help.

:waytogo: Remember, If you have the 700R4, You will need to adjust the TV cable.

It does. Comes with spacers for the throttle cable and tv cable bracket. You still might need to adjust the tv cable though. There are instructions for doing it here and on google.
