just need some help on letting her go...

should I

Those integras only get like 22-25mpg depending how you drive em.

Overall it is up to you with what you want to do. Do you take your blazer offroad or just drive it? For a lot of us here that would be a lifestyle change, but if you just drive the blazer than it is just another form of transportation

Well, I do not get to Offroad my blazer as much as I would like to, And unfortunately. last time I did I broke my tranny :P
But, Yeah It's more of a Daily driver.,

The main downside is, you can't hang around here anymore.
They don't let guys who don't own GM products in.... here..............Uhhh.......Never Mind.........

You didn't say, so I will ask, when was the last time the timing belt was changed on the Acura? Was it done before or after it broke? With that many miles, it is supposed to be replaced every 50k, it should have been done 3 times. I would plan on doing it right from the get go. The DOHC engine in them is pretty reliable, but requires the proper upkeep to last a long time. I know of a few around here pushing 250k on them, and still running great. It IS an interference motor, so if the belt breaks it is spendy for a new head.

Mileage, yeah around the mid to high 20's is about it with them on 5 speeds. If you baby it you might get it up to 30, but I make no promises.

You just have to decide what is most important to you. Personally I dislike everything by Honda, since they never figured out how to put their engines in facing the right way. :haha: Finding older Blazers that are relatively rust free is getting harder to do, so is it worth the savings on gas for the potential of not finding another clean Blazer?

For the record, you wouldn't be able to pry my Blazer out of my cold dead hands, and it hasn't been driven in more than a year.

I almost forgot, make sure the water pump was done with the timing belt. Water pumps are internal to the timing cover and run off the timing belt. It should also have had a new timing belt tensioner installed with the belt.

I am not telling you this to scare you off, but it should help you with negotiations if you do choose to make the trade. And a correction, it is 60k miles for replacement, so if it hasn't been done very recently, it will need to be replaced.

I would totally trade my K5 for a Honda if that offer ever came my way....

:haha:

If you really need a good reliable gas saver then trading the k5 for something else might be a good idea.

But a 180,000 mile Acura, I would laugh at the person that offered me the deal and thats not meant to be offensive but think about the value of a cheap car that is 17 years old with 180k miles on it vs the value of a k5 in decent condition:whistle:

why dont you go to a marine shop, get a inexpensive soft top made to save weight, and drive like Grandpa moses?

even though its easier to drive a little car for gas mileage, my opinion is, that if you do the right steps you can achieve better mileage out of the blazer and not have to rid of it...

not a good "straight across" trade
you need cash, at least the entire Acura stuffed with pesos

Hmmm, he's contemplating giving up his V8 4x4 K5 for an old 1.8L 4 cyl FWD Honda....

:sign25::sign18:

180K.... I dunno about all that...

That's timing belt #2 territory, at the least.
Acura's, ime, love to either run perfect, or go completely to sh*t, right around then.

Really depends on driver style, and maintanence.
You wouldn't want a 180K mile Integra, from me, is all I'm sayin'. :haha:

Well, this lets you keep the Blazer and get the mileage you need.

Just find a 3 cylinder Perkins or similar out of an old Massey and slide it in. Acceleration is not going to be great, but with your gears, might be better than the car you are looking at.........

180K and the 5 speed tranny has been rebuilt...sounds like the car was driven hard in my opinion...or by someone that cant drive a stick. I say pass.

chance to get rid of

Sounds like you've already made up your mind, you want to justify it by going for the Acura. :dunno:

I wouldn't...but you're the one that's gotta pay the fuel/mx bill. What about getting an Eco DD and just keep the blazer...is that an option?

Don't do it! They aren't making K5's anymore, and they will always make piece of junk econo-boxes! I've sold more 4x4's and later regretted doing it than I care to admit. I have regretted selling zero fuel sippers.

Thankfully it's a free country, so you decide what's best for you and your family. I personally have had to make cut back on spending in other places to keep my K5. Come hell or high water, I'm keeping mine.
