I am having trouble with my 2002 Gmc the change engine oil light keeps coming on when I start the truck blinks 6-7 times then goes out. I have tried the key on pump accelerator three times in five seconds ive tried more pumps, actually moving the throttle under the hood. No change any tricks for getting this goofy thing to reset.

Try 4 pumps or 5 and the last one hold it. Some can be a pain. Does your truck have steering wheel controls?

Tried changing the oil???...........

Sorry, I just had to.

According to what little I have read, you may be doing it wrong. There are several methods floating around out there.

Some say you have 5 seconds after you turn the key on to press the pedal all the way to the floor 3 times.
Others say wait until the warning light comes on before pressing the pedal, and yet another place says press down, hold for one second, release, repeat for a total of 3 times.

Most say that the light should blink for about 5 seconds afterward to signal its reset, and not to turn off the key until its through.

If you have the owner's manual, either reread it, or let someone else read the procedure.
I often read something one way, get fixated on that being the right way only to discover I read it wrong the first time.
Sometimes the wording leaves a lot to be desired.

Pretty sure you're supposed to be holding the brake while pumping the throttle 3 times within 5 seconds of turning the ignition on.

The '05 here is just turn the key to the on position, hit the gas pedal 3 times, no time frame stated and the display reads out that it has been reset.

What I would like to know, is how to readjust the mileage or time frame it measures in, as it is now, it's about 6500 miles.

Well I pumped held everyway I thought possible idk what did it but this morning poof it was gone. Thanks everyone. I looked at the book again all it said was key on pump three times in five seconds. I dont know

On my '03 you turn the key on, slowly the press the accelerator to the floor 3 times, and the display states it has been reset. If you pump the pedal too fast or don't go all the way to the floor it won't reset.

For the question about changing the interval, it's not simply based off of mileage. The interval will changed based on how the truck has been driven and other factors. Don't know all of the specifics but the ECM is recording torque percentages, time at torque, temperatures, etc... and then calculating the mileage.

I kind of wondered that about these things..

Oh well, I'll do it the old fashioned way, change it at certain mileage, just so i can feel all warm and fuzzy knowing..
