I had 3.73's and changed to 4.56's and I'm running 37 BFG's.
It took off from a stop pretty good with the old gears and was 10mph faster than the speedo said. Now it has a lot more takeoff power and speedo is within 2 mph.
4 wheel parts had 20% off the gears and I had a coupon for $500. worth of free labor.:thumb: So I had them do the rear and I am going to do the front myself. Might put a tru trak in there, saw they were going for around $300.
They said my rear axle shafts had some pitts in them where the bearings ride and suggested I replace them. What do you guys suggest. Is it a big deal or not. They sell guaranteed axle shafts for about 100 bucks each with free replacement, no questions asked.
Thanks, Tarey

Yap, I still have the 10 bolts in there and I'm not going to wheel the hell out of it. I use it for hunting and me and the GF to go camping.
It's my clean street truck.
I did all that 1 ton stuff in my younger days.

Yeah, 10/12 bolts do use the shaft itself as the inner race of the wheel bearing so any wear there is cause for concern.

If you can really get lifetime warranty shafts from them for $200/pair I'd say do it and keep your current ones as spares.

while i fully believe the rear axle will with the use you described, sometimes luck is against ones side.. that is not a horrible price.

what brand are the shafts?

They were Genuine gear G2's. I know other companies make them also, but haven't done any more research yet.
What kind do you guys recommend ?
