wont go into gear and i cant really see the level on the dipstick, how many quarts should it take to get it to go into gear? oh yea its a th350

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr i didnt know how much should go back in, so i listened to his dumbass, although it didnt seem like 10 quarts came out when i took the pan off, the torque converter should still be full right?

Whatever the parts guy said was not in quarts, it's in pints.
Everytime I drop the pan on my tranny, I am surprised at how much fluid it takes to fill it. My chiltons says something like 5 pints. Yeah right. I buy my ATF in the gallon and it usually takes one and 3/4 (about 7 quarts) to fill it back up. I just fill it up a bit, start the truck, and keep filling until the level is right (periodically shifting in and out of gear to get the ATF going everywhere).

I'ld think if your running a tranny cooler, that would increase volume of atf needed to fill. I just keep filling mine until the dip stick says full. Run it through gears and recheck.

The tranny cooler DOES indeed increase the amount of ATF you need to refill it. I installed a big stacked plate cooler and now it takes almost one extra litre to reach the full mark after a service.

When i change out the filter and gasket on 350s at work i put in about 5 quarts . It may have been low before you took it apart. The converter usually doesnt drain when pulling the pan .

When I did my oil change I put 10 quarts and a little overflow from the pan.
Do it a quart a time and see how much you need.

How did you get 10 quarts in by just pulling the pan ?
Fill it till it shows on the dip stick. Then fire it up and it should be about enough to run on. Not sure what tranny you have but on My TH350 it usualy only takes about 3.5 quarts with a change.
