Is it possable to make a C&C 14BFF full width by swapping out the hubs? I've got a lead on one kind of close to home already geared like I need and the guy that's got it said I'd need to swap out the hubs from a SRW to make it full width. I don't know anything about the C&C axles. I thought the housing itself was narrower than a full width. Lemme know what y'all know and I'll go from there.

Yep, the C&C 14bff housing and shafts are the same as an SRW axle. [NB: There *is* a wiiiiiide dually 14bff, but it's rare; I believe it was only used in a few IFS (i.e. new body style) rigs in 88-91ish. Generally you see the D70 on wide, i.e. not C&C, duallies.]

Yes, you can change hubs to the SRW, moving your WMS out, IIRC 2" on each side.

However, that moves the drums 2" away from the shoes! The brake mounting flange is now in 2" too far ... so you need a 2" spacer for your backing plate. And new brake hardline.

That's assuming you keep the 13x3.5 brakes. I imagine a regular wheel would fit over them -- not all the way, the drum will stick out inside -- but I've not actually tried.

If you do a disc conversion, you'd also need a big honkin' spacer and longer bolts (or at least pipe around the bolts, but that's skanky) ... or a weld-on bracket kit, which used to be made, anyway. I donno if you can get them any more.

Well, you DO have one more option which is to cut off the brake flanges and either reuse them, or have Kert make you a set (he did so for me) and re-weld them on 2" closer. You have to be careful when doing so to get the dang things EXACTLY square though. :doah:

I did this ... sort of. I converted my SRW 14bff to dually. In the end I actually kept the SRW hubs, keeping the same WMS as stock, 'cuz the tires and brakes were getting awfully close to the springs and U-bolts.

I did move the brakes back into the axle, as Kert was kind enough to make me new flanges. I eventually converted from dually to disc, so that truck now has a totally custom weird setup on it. I tubbed the wheel wells in a bit, and the tires stick out a bit past the stock (SRW) fender, but not like a wide dually would, so people don't notice it's a dually at first. (Thus the "stealth dually" description.)

Also note that a C&C axle will be off a 1-ton so you'd need to change the spring perches and maybe the shock mounting ... unless that axle is really cheap, I'd reconsider, 'cuz you're in for a lot of :grind: :weld:

Thanks man and good info! The C&C is out of an 88 newr body style and it's going into a 90 K1500. Would the springs mounts still line up? That's basically what' I'm going for so I don't have to move the perches.

My expertise with the IFS rigs is limited to precisely one axle, which is now seriously jerry-rigged under a trailer ... but I digress.

Ya know, I don't know if the NBS rigs have different spring perches for the 1-ton's versus the smaller rigs. I'd break out the measuring tape before the wallet ... and look closely at the shock mounting. Again, I don't know about the new ones, but our trucks could have different shock mounts for 2WD vs 4WD as well as 1-ton vs smaller.

Sorry I'm not so insightful about the new ones, but I've not owned one, so I have no first-hand experience. (Save that one axle, which IIRC has crazy wide spaced perches, or maybe narrower perches but has giant flat panels out the outside, like for coil springs or something?)

Oh I'll def. make sure the deminsions are right before I spend anything. I'll go check the measurements on the truck tomorrow after I get off work. Hopefully I'll know by then the measurements on the axle so I can make a decision to buy it or not. Thanks again!
