hey guys, i have an 88 k5 (multi belt drive), and i need to change the alternator belt. i know how to losen the alternator belt, but how do i get the other belt off that is infront of it? its in the way. do i have to take the fan off to change the belt? thanks guys.

If its a single belt system you can use a socket on a ratchet to release the belt tensioner. Be careful a a/c mechanic would not listen to how its done an the thing unloaded hitting him square between the eyes. It looked like he got hit by Mike Tyson :rotfl: They make a tool to use also.

does multi belt sound like single belt? :haha: :screwy: ... assuming you have a smog pump you need to loosen the bolt that is holding the smog pump in place...should be a 9/16 IIRC. just loosen it take the belt off then shimmy the alternator belt off.
