These links are a little dated, but should get you on track for doing a bit of research about swapping your own gears. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Swapping gears is not really difficult, but requires a whole lot of patience and the correct tools.

With getting the back lash set right and pressing in carrier bearings, I decided to swap in a good axle, or just take it to someone.

Sorry not much help. I just did not want to get in over my head.

I do this kind of work everyday. There are some special tools youll need. Along with the gearsets and bearings.

Ill try and stay on the specifics:
Mark the caps, pull the axles out, pull the carrier out rememebring which shims went to which side.
Take off the yoke, and beat the pinion out, along with the old races and axle bearings and seals.
Clean the housing.
Take shim off and old pinion, pull off carrier bearings.
Put in new races.
Put shim on pinion and a set up bearing, put pinion in housing, tighten down yoke.
Put ring gear and new bearings on carrier. Put carrier in housing and shims, tighten down caps.
Check backlash, if it is in specs, check the pattern, if backlash isnt is in specs, get it in specs before adjusting pattern.
Once its all good, put it all back together.
Press on the inner bearing.
Use locktite on the pinion nut, once you crush the crush sleeve, and the pinions tight, beat the pinion back and forth with a brass punch to seat the bearings. I guess torque to specs, I do it by feel.
Put the carrier and shims in, check backlash and pattern.
Install alxe berings and seals, along with axles, c clips and the crossshaft pin, using loctite.
Cover and oil, driveshaft, ect.

A little vauge, but hope that helps
