accidently broke window in pass. side door...is it hard to change out or would it be easier finding a new door...

Hardest part imho is getting it lined up. I have to replace my back window broke it the other day wasn't down all the way and hit glass edge :doah:

I think I might pay a place to that cause it looks to complcated. Sides is easy I replace one last year.

I have removed the glass on my truck before. It is not real hard to do, but you should have someone help hold the glass while you unbolt or adjust the window mechanism, and be prepared to spend some time maneuvering the glass in and out of the door. I don't remember the exact way to pull the glass out. You will also have to be careful not to scratch the new glass as you put it in. I had my glass replaced by a shop, after my truck was painted. I think I paid less that $100 per side for parts and labor, and it was worth a few bucks to have a pro do it.

If you change the whole door:
your paint may not match
you may have to unhook and then reconnect wires for locks and windows
you will have to get the adjustment correct on the hinge bolts
change the key lock from the old door to the new one
make sure that the used door has a good latch, window regulator, and weatherstripping and find good glass in a used door

You should get a price for the glass by its self and also a price with installation. Then do what you can afford. Or, replace the door if the above items will not be a problem.

Good luck

I don't know what your skill level and your patience level is, but I have yet to let anyone do any work on my vehicles, and glass was among the easier things I have done.:wink1:

yep...good thing this is goin on my beater...so it bein straight and lined up dont really apply...as long as it shuts...and the window rolls up and down...im probly jus guna get a beat up door...hopefully under 30 bux.... the door thas on there now is really stiff when it comes to rolling up and down the window....i think im guna start lookin for a new door...thas why i started the olive drab thread...i didnt like how the color turned out on my truck anyways..

Some junkyards will have a glass guy come pull the donor glass and install it in your vehicle....or they will do it themselves.

I tried when I was 15 to replace a piece of door glass. Spent all day trying to get the new piece in. I got it in, but it was upsidedown and pointing backwards.:haha: I ended up grabing a differnt door out of my scrap pile. I tried again to replace side glass a few years later and was succesfull at it. Still took a decent amount of time.

I broke my driver side glass on the trail once. It takes more patience than skill to pull this off. It took even more time to vacuum the glass out of the door than it did to install the glass haha.

if you have a vent window, youll have to remove that too. I dont recall exactly what year they started doing that. not hard to do, but a PITA if you dont know about it.

The rear window in the blazer is pretty tit to do, the sash just bolts to the the arms in two places, pull the seals off the inside and outside edge of the gate itself, and the window will pull right out...
