Got napa reman pump and new hoses. Any tips or tricks or is it straight forward?

84 K5 , 165k, prob org pump

Be patient, don't tighten anything down till you have all fasteners and hose ends installed. also make note of pulley position on old pump shaft before you pull it.

Have fun

And pay attention to o-rings in steering box. Unless you have a flared version.

Once everything is together, I block the rear wheels and lift the front tires up, fill it with oil and cycle it slowly WITHOUT the engine on

After a few minutes of this, gets most of the bubbles out

If I’m not in a hurry, sometimes I leave it overnight and do it again in the morning before starting it

Yeah you can turn pump over by hand before you put belt on check lvl turn some more check lvl.

Also if you have a pump that growls a little, Motorcraft xl-3 friction modifier in the reservoir, about an once, it will quite right up

Make sure you have a puller-installation tool for the pump.

They dont rent tools here, im not opposed to buying one, napa only had the
2 claw type. Should i use that type or the collar type.

You need the collar type.
I got mine from harbor freight and it worked perfect. Took off the one and pressed on the other.
