No, I have pulled many hills in 3rd. I lock up in 3rd manually, to reduce the heat from torque converter slipping. I do worry a bit the torque I am putting on the lock up thou. My engine is making good power and torque at 3rd gear highway speed rpm.
It looks awesome on paper and I think it could be with proper tuning. I have 2 XLs of similar weight and basically the same engine. The 6L80 vehicle gets a little better MPG, but it also insists on shifting with any grade change. The 4L60E feels faster to drive. I need to spend the $100 at some point to tune the 6L80.
Most of the 6/8 speed owners report major improvements with tuning.
