Chaps my hide!

Why in the world did my(6cyl 4.2 Vortec)Trailblazer use 7 quarts?

Opps! There I fixed it...:doah:

...but still 7 quarts?

Indeed it was an inline 6.

I looked in Wal-Mart today and they had 5 quart jugs:rolleyes: for the same price as O'reallys even.

True I don't like that our big V8's only take 5 quarts. Someday next year I'm going to do a remote filter bracket with an oil cooler. I'm not a religious every 3k oil change kind of person. I go by the color of the oil, when it gets dark enough, then I change it. This last change had 6k miles on it and still had some gold color in it, and wasn't low or anything.

I think the change every 3k miles is a way to keep money moving, and a holdover from the days when cars had a lot of miles at 100k and oil was basically strained crude. Technology allows oil to stay in there longer.

We've run oil changes on vehicles twice a year since the 80's in our family. Could be anywhere from 1500-12000 miles between changes. Always used Havoline oil and AC Delco filters until recently. Mom and Dad bought a 89 Cavalier new that we got 232K miles out of and sold running and also a 93 S-10 Blazer we got 215K miles out of and also sold running. Both drove off the place under their own power with tags and I know for sure the Blazer is still on the road. The clutch started going bad in both and we decided that due to rust on them, they were not worth the time for us to put a clutch in either. The Cavalier was getting to the point that anything in the back floor board got wet when it rained. :haha:

I use either the NAPA Gold or Purolator PureOne oil filters on EVERYTHING, including both farm tractors (47 and 75 pto hp) and our garden tractor (22hp Briggs). Usually run either the NAPA or Advance Auto brand of oil (except for the tractors which get Delo)

My Cherokee takes 6qts with the factory small filter, but I run the larger Ford filter on it so it'll hold about 1/2 a qt more. I run the large filters on everything but the t-top car which only gets about 800-1000 miles a year on it.

It's not limited to oil either--buy any FOOD lately??..

The cans ,bottles and packages keep getting SMALLER,and the prices go HIGHER!....just like at the gas pump,we pay more every day and get LESS..

Speaking of things that chap our hides--how about "Excise Taxes"...just what ARE they FOR anyway?..a city or town charges us money to "garage" a vehicle in our own yard?...just got mine yesterday in the mail--$18.75 for my '82 pickup and $36.75 for my 95 Ford Contour...thats almost what I pay for a months insurance!..and where does this money GO,what do they do with it?--they sure aint fixing the ROADS with it,thats for sure...bad enough I have to pay 60 bucks a month for insurance,so I can let my vehicles SIT unused ,because I cant afford to drive them with no income, seems like every month I'm putting out 100 bucks to so I CAN use one "legally" if I ever get and money to buy GAS with.....I'm about ready to sell everything I have with wheels ort an engine and just stay home ,my eyes suck and I wont be able to drive much longer probably anyway...

Because your front axles go through the oil pan because they were designed to give you a lower center of gravity! Which is also why you can't really lift a Trailblazer/Envoy very much!!

I hear ya on all that man! Groceries are rediculous lately. 10 bucks for a can of frickin Folgers! and you NEED coffee up here cause the sun never comes out. I'm just glad I'm not buying diapers anymore...

What are you paying for gas out there? $3.35 range and rising out here for mid grade. If you're "in town" or off the freeway its $3.40-3.70+

But of course Portland wants to spend more money on bike lanes so they can be "GREEN" Clearly I need to buy some horrendous looking wool jacket, some corrduroy pants and a 10 speed and get with the program.

buy an oil filter for the 366/427/454td engine. it adds 1/2 qt. i have been using those trying to keep my 350 together with no oil pressure.

f-in green comunist bastards that live around here. i wish they would get on their bikes and ride into the next state....and not come back. jerkoffs. you dont know how hard it is to not stop in the middle of the road, kick them off thier bike, then beat them with the 1" wrench i keep on the front seat of the truck. especially after they run a stop sign, or ride all the way to the left in the bike lane.... i need mirrors that stick out further.

rant off.

Gas here is around 3.05 to 3.25 a gallon, seems to go up daily--some days I drive by the stations and its ten cents higher 4 hours later on my way back home!...I think they run out and jack prices up if they hear oil went up per barrel on the stock market reports that day--and fridays are gauranteed to be the day the prices jump ,due to the fact everyone wants to go somewhere on weekends too...
The bastards never LOWER the prices when oil prices drop on the stock exchange though--it fell more than 5 bucks in a week recently, but once they got it up over 3 bucks a gallon ,you wont see a drop in the price unless it stays low for a month or more...it would be one thing if there was a shortage ,but its just "speculation" driving prices up now--the "fear" of the Suez canal being closed off is causing prices to climb, not any real "crisis"...

Diesel fuel here jumped about 50 cents in a months time, last time I got some about 2 weeks ago it was 3.45 a gallon at the cheapest place I could find close by--many places getting 3.99 a gallon or even higher..wait till the truckers start adding in fuel surcharges for delivering food to stores, then see how much LESS we can buy and have to live on...you cant win by trying to grow your own food either--seeds,fertilizer and other gardening supplies have skyrocketed in price, and your lucky if anything grows,or isnt eaten by animals or destroyed by bad weather ,after all your hard labor...
I dont see too many here in bicycles, but I've seen quite a few morons on motorcycles the past week!..yes,it was 60 degrees the past 2 days, but before that it was still frigid ,below zero even, and there is still 2 feet of snow on the ground..I dont know if the idiots are that bad off they cant afford to drive their cars,or they get some thrill out of riding one this time of year when its ten times as dangerous, with all the sand and icy patches on the roads, which are very narrow still in many places, with 6 foot snowbanks at intersections and potholes deep enough to swallow up a Harley or crotch rocket...

Oh, now I know. I don't have the Tblaze anymore but I wheeled the crap out of it while I had it.:waytogo:

You know what really made me mad today? I went to O'reallys auto parts to buy oil and a filter for my truck, I spy the big 5-quart jug in my favorite Valvoline high mileage blend, and a Fram high mileage filter, all for $19. I go home change my oil, and when I go check the level, it's at the "add" mark. That seems odd, so I check again, making sure the dipstick is all the way in. Still low. So I grab the jug and look closely, it's only 4-quart jug! Since when does that happen? And I don't know of any cars today that take only 4 quarts of oil. So I had to run down to O'reallys and vent to them while I buy another quart of oil for my truck.

Really annoying.

quityerbitchen......

3 gallons every 5k in the Cummins....:doah:

I wheeled the crap out of mine too! Used to drive clients up into the hills going after Elk and had to prove how to put an Elk into the back many times!!
