Have a couple of cans of R12 and was going to put one in the Chalet. A/C has always cooled, just not well. Even though its been sitting for 2 years, the compressor is still trying to cycle and its cooling a bit. Going to put a can of freon in it and see where that gets me. Which port do you put it in? My hose fits both sides. One cap has "PH" on it, the other just has the name of the manufacturer.

either one......just remove the cap slowly to make sure there isn't a missing shrader core.....I think that type of accumulator is made so you can put a pressure switch on one port,,,and use the other one for your gauge hook up.

that kink in the aluminum suction line isn't helping things either,,,,,better to leave it alone than to try to pull it back straight,,,,might crack it...;)

That's what I figured, ended up putting a can through the drivers side and its cooling much better. Of course my wore out old a/c is trying to cool about 100 sq ft in there. Need to upgrade the blower......

Kink isn't as bad it looks.

What's a good blower upgrade? I saw something about putting in a '94 1/2 ton pickup blower, but it doesn't work any better than the one I pulled out.

What about hooking up 12V direct from the battery to the blower motor using a relay activated by the stock relay switch?

Maybe if the motor gets a full blast of juice it will spin faster?

Umm..that's exactly what the HI setting is. You could run a shorter/fatter wire to the relay, I guess.

R-12 is worth a ton if you can find someone to buy it, nostagic guys and old school hot rodders. something like 150 bucks for a pound of R12 is what my teacher said

Sucker cooled good for about a half a day and then the clutch in the compressor went out. I'll probably just run without it for now and maybe convert it over with new compressor next year.

You can find R12 on cl all day for $15-$25 a pound. I just picked up 29lbs for $400.

Better yet, just tell him you found a great deal on some R12 and you would be willing to sell him some for say $100/lb?
