ok so i replaced the altinator a few days ago cause the system wasnt chargin right, but now its still not with the new one on there. belt is nice and tight, checked voltage, i get like 11.50 or so to everything when the key is off, with it on, i get like 12.80 at the battery, and 13.40 or so at the cable going to the altinator. and like 12. something at the plug, any ideas? seems like the altinator is putting out enough voltage..

maybe the battery is dead or going. Buy a new one and save the receipt in case it dies , you can exchange it.

hmm..i dont think thats it though to be honest, ill ask my dad, im not sure what it could be really im pretty lost..theres not any fuses that have to do with it or anything is there?

bry... have you let it run long enough to burn in the brushes in the alternator? its a possibility you got a bad alternator also..

Check the connections at the battery, the starter and grounds and make sure they are all nice and clean. That's just about it cept for a tired battery. Good luck to ya in the future.

Check the connections at the battery, the starter and grounds and make sure they are all nice and clean. If you have the molded plastic with the chargin wire comin from the alternator in it check that especially cuz that's a hard one to tell. I chased a problem like this on a Burban we owned and I couldn't figure it out until that wire came right out of the plastic due to corrosion. That's just about it cept for a tired battery. Good luck to ya in the future.

Charging system sounds fine. Battery isn't holding a full charge. Alternators usually put that many volts anyway (most auto electronics like CB's prefer 13.8 volts anyway). If you can afford it go optima, otherwise go down to the parts store and get a 5 yr battery /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

but if the battery was bad would that bring the altinator down? cause on the meter it never gets up to around 13 were it should be its usually down around 8-10

by the way thanx for all the help so far!! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif i dunno what id do if it werent for this place lol..

If you are having trouble starting the engine, the battery could have a bad cell in it, you will still get a 13 volt reading from the volt meter, but when it loads up trying to start the engine, they will usually drop to nearly nothing, You need to check the load on the battery. You will still get full power from the alternator, but the battery isn't going to "keep" it. Get that battery checked out, BTW, how old is the battery??? /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

dunno..my dad got it from work..but would that explain why the volt meter stays down around 8-10 (veries sometimes) and never gets up to 13 like it should and stay?

If you are talking about the gauge on the dash, it is a very good possibility, but those gauges are kinda unreliable as not one of them from truck to truck will read the same, just go get the battery checked out and see where it stands.

ok well i switched another batteyr in it and it seems to be fine now guess thats all it was /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
