If my steering wheel is turned when I take off I get a chattering feel from my rear diff. If I turn after I take off then it doesn't do it. I have serviced it several times since I put it (14bff) in a few months ago. I have even put in LSD additive and nothing changed. I assume my carrier is a gov lock, but I'm not positive,. It has no openings around it anywhere except for one small one close to the ring gear bolts. It is a 2 piece unit that tapers down from the ring gear to the carrier bearings. It's from a '75K20. Any ideas??

Maybe a bad Gov Loc , but don't sound like it , sounds more like a locker . My lockright and Detroits etc , ratchet around corners at low speed . Detroits have come in 14bff in certain applications from the factory .

I can go around in circles in a parking lot and it doesn't do it. It only does it when the wheel is turned before I take off, if I move straight one foot then turn, it doesn't do it. If it's a Detroit then it's normal, right?

No , it would do it in parking lots .

Perhaps your Gov Loc is boken or breaking inside , or a spider or something .

Well , you should change your gear oil once in awhile , may as well do it now so you can check for any shavings etc .

The 14 bff stuff is supposedly stronger , but if it is a Gov Loc I don't trust it , I broke my 10 bolt Gov Loc , and my buddies 14 bff Gov Loc ( which don't make noise like your axle BTW ) is failing to lock like like it used to on dirt .

sounds like you spider gears are done. When you take off with you wheels turned, it instantly puts unequal torque on the spider gears. If you go straight, then turn, the spider gears already have equal (almost) torque on them. Just an idea though...if you do have a detroit, the nevermind.
