Cheap 1/2" Impacts

The whole discussion is kinda moot...yes there are good and bad guns out there, but there are so many factors not being discussed....such as how you take care of your tools, oil regularly? etc, what size air compressor are you running it on? etc etc A tool only works as well as you let it.

I'm not worried about my impact wearing out, I'm more concerned with it not having the power to remove rusty fasteners.

Chicago Pneumatics = garbage there's a reason you can buy them at Harbor Freight

Are you sure you aren't thinking of Central Pneumatics? My dad has had pretty good luck with the Harbor Freight Earthquake which is an IR Thundergun knockoff. Not the quality of an IR, but has held up well under normal use for the last several years.

buy a GOOD gun now, and you wont have to buy one a few years down the road. i've had to rebuy enough tools that i dont skimp on tools anymore. i'll second the IR 2135 TI, its an awesome piece!

I haven't seen any Chicago Pneumatics stuff in Harbor's catalog. I have seen Central Pneumatics, though. My experiences with Chicago Pneumatics gear is that it's decent-quality stuff at decent prices.
I used a work-issued Chicago Pneumatics CP733 1/2" impact from August to December. A little heavy IMO, but it got most jobs done. Then I got my IR 2135TI... and the love story began. I used it professionally, every weekday, from just after Christmas 'till last Friday when I left my previous employer. In my opinion, it is one of those rare products that's truly worth every penny.

I have a CP air hammer. It's been great. Their impacts aren't at all comparable to mine, so I wouldn't be interested in them, but the air hammer I have is great, and it was cheap.

you get what you pay for.......

I bought a cheap 1/2 inch Impact at a flea market for 29 bucks..it sounds like an impact gun,but has a hard time loosening anything--like lug nuts,it wont even take them off unless I break them loose by hand first--a big labor saver, huh?? --and forget those 12V impact guns--they are useless!....

I think your better off buying a good brand name tool in the end,the cheapies dont have the power or longevity of the better brands...

I like to shop at pawn shops too,but many of our local ones are nothing more than a place for crack and heroin addicts to cash in their stolen goods--we recently had 100,000 dollars worth of contractors tools stolen in the past 6 months in the town next to mine..,they finally busted some of the crooks--but many mechanics I know that bought tools from the pawn shops had to give them up to the police for evidence to use against the crooks in court--one guy refused to hand over his tools he bought, and was arrested and charged with posession of stolen tools, and interfering with a crime investigation!--I dont need that kind of aggravation!..--you can get some good deals on legit tools there sometimes, but buyer beware!..
