Cheap Double Beadlocks

I will run over to the garage as soon as I unload my truck. My h1 rims are unmounted sitting in the garage right now. I'll get the measurement of the inside of the outer bead.

www.stazworks.com has PVC for less than that. I know it has been a year or two but I think they were about 36$ each or so. John is good to work with also, no issues like US6x6 has had.

its been said hes overloaded with business in the past few months. I will have to check with him because I need PVCs for my H1s. At the moment sadly you can't beat USA6x6 for wheel centers. $37 per center for pressed centers that give you 4.5" backspacing.

I placed a rule across the top of each bead on my rims and measured to the flatest portion of the rim(also about the highest spot). About 13/16ths of an inch. Nothing amazing at all. I'd say the torque spec is definetally for bead retention.

That really isn't all that deep...anyone think it's worth dropping $40 for an insert and trying it out on one rim?

At this point I am curious enough to see the results. The only possable downside would be if it pushed the bead up over the lip. If it does then trim down the PVC so you have less pressure. If in the end you end up with little pressure it will atleast hold the tire int he right area even if it leaks when you hit an obstical it shouldn't come off the bead area. I vote go for it. :D

I realize this won't be as effective as a true double lock would be, however I'm looking to eliminate large air burps and full on bead loss. If I cut a sidewall or rip one off the rim, so be it. The only thing that would save that would be a tube but a friend of mine has cut two tubes in the last year so nothing's indestructible.

No, I've never lost an inner. However, I've stayed at or above 10 psi as well. Not exactly trail pressure but most of my wheeling has been done around smaller rigs so we weren't tackling anything insane...which I'd like to get into. Also, the snow runs around here are wicked so it's not uncommon for guys to go down to 1-2 psi with stauns or double locks. You might call it overkill or a waste but I definitely have my reasons to at least give one rim a shot. If I can get the inserts for $40 a piece and they work reasonably well...I'll have converted single locks into half assed doubles for $160 and a case of beer. I plan on sticking with 40-44" tires and 1-tons for a while so I'm not really pissing money away...more like slowly leaking it. :haha:

I think I'll call John up and see if he's going to Dresser in February. I'm gonna be riding with a friend so I could just pick up an insert or four if he's gonna go to the run.

I've never seen anybody try to run an PVC insert in a one piece rim. Is this a new concept? Sure, you see people running PVC inserts on the normal 2 piece double beadlocks all of the time, but this is different.

Besides for what seems to be a huge PITA to try to do (bolting it together), I don't see how you could get any pressure against the inner sidewall with the insert. Granted, I think the extra height of the PVC would help keep the inner bead on even if it wasn't tight.

I don't have beadlocks, yet, but have personally knocked the outer bead off at least 6-7 times running lower pressures..........but have never lost an inner bead.
