im getting mixed reviews when reading about dash pad replacements and since my 75 blazer won’t be a show truck just a fun convertible summer cruiser I’m not spending $500 to replace it.
Mine is real,badly cracked ect.
What would be the easiest, best , and most affordable option to make for a permanent fix?
Options on what worked for you on a budget....
Don’t want a carpet layover unless last option they look tacky to me..just my opinion though so no insult to others that have this...

So you want your cake and to eat it too?
Cheap but quality and permanent? Not happening.
Dashes direct brandis what you're looking for. Meets the important two out of three requirements.

Not only do I want my cake but I want ice cream on top to boot..lol

How about the dash pad “caps” I have heard they look pretty good. I think they go for $100, while that is not cheap it’s a lot better then the $400-500 for a new one. There was a thread on here with pics of the caps in use. I think I’m going that route in my k10

Eventually, I'll strip mine down to metal. Close the openings left from the bottom with aluminum sealing tape, and bed line it. Seen plenty done like this and it's fairly cheap. Still looks decent and should last .

here was raw steel with the holes in their glory prior to metal work...

I haven't done it on current k5, because my dash pad is still nice on this one...but previously I had a 1980 and the dash pad was shot...I didn't want to pay for a new piece of crappy plastic...so I did what some of the previous posters did...stripped off the padding down to the metal...but then I went to Joann's or whatever and I got a few yards of fabric that was black with little white skulls on it....sprayed adhesive on the metal dash, laid the skull fabric over it and smoothed it all out. Looked nice...and totally custom of course...lol. that was a few years ago...I don't have any photos of it any more though :/
