Ok, so I got a good deal on a Dana 60 front, but it has 4.56 gears. My 14 bolt FF has 4.10's. I'd rather go to 4.56's so I have to do a swap in the rear.

Should I look for axle internals, or just hold off and try to find a 4.56 14-bolt? Should I get a ring & pinion that fits inside the 4.10 & Lower carrier?

Anyone out there want 4.10's, so we can swap internals :D

Are you planning on putting a Detroit in?If so keep the 4:10 carrier and get the thick gears for it.They don't make a Detroit for the 4:56 carrier. If not and then I have the 4:56 internals I might be interested in trading.See what shipping would be to 81635.

I do plan on putting a detroit in there. You can't buy a new detroit with the 4.56 carrier? That is how the CUCV's came, so I figured you could. This is good information.

I also didn't know you could get 4.56 gears for the 4.10 size carrier.

I think he means that they don't make a Detroit for a D60 with 4.56s. I have installed Detroits in 4.56 14 bolts, so i know for a fact that's not a problem.

If I found a CUCV axle with 4.56's and a detroit locker, could I just get the internals (carrier and pinion assembly) and place them into my housing?

yes you can, you will still need to check the pattern and backlash. If you get the complete 44.56 axle, swap the pinion retainer over o your housing and then set the adjusters, shouldn't be much set up work

OK,Sorry I had a bad brain fart when I wrote that. I had the Dertroit and 5:13/5:38 gears mixed up.The Detroits for the 14FF are all the same.

As far as should you just find a 14bolt with 4:56 gears that would depend on if you know how to set up the gears yourself.Or if your going to pay to have someone do it.I would say if your can do them yourself, then it might be worth it to buy new gears and just do a rebuild while your at it.If not.I would look for one with the correct gears.

If this is the case.I would just take the whole thing and use it.Then sell your current one to pay for the new one.Why tear 2 apart to make one.

I've never setup gears, but I'm sure I could do it. If I get the pinion assembly and the carrier, the job would be easier. My current housing is nice and pretty :D and it has the disc brake conversion on it. Also, I haven't been able to find a local 14b FF axle with 4.56's and a detroit. And if I did, I'd have to get the spring perches moved.

I figure I have a much better chance of finding some willing to ship the carrier and pinion assembly than I do a whole 14b axle. However, I will continue to try and find one locally.
