check engine light came on

while i was goin down the freeway in OD, when i got to my exit, i shut it off and started it again, and it turend off and diddent come on again all the way to work........Any ideas? It has done it before, (when i first got it)and it would loose alot of power, so i changed the oil and filter and the air filter, and it diddent happen any more. This time when it did it it diddent lose any power at all /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Your ALDL connector is on the bottom of the dash under the steering wheel.
Find out what code its throwing and post it.

Yes. Anytime the CEL comes on the problem code is stored in the ECMs memory for aprox 50 starts.

dealer have the scan tool and it only like 10$ to do it!

Most autoparts stores will do it for free. Or a paper clip in the A/B terminals will give you the code too.

Likely an O2 sensor. When they start to go bad, they respond slower. The first place the computer regcognizes that slow repsonse is constant rpm driving on the highway.

mine throws an EGR code every now and again, whenever I run the interstate at constant speed, just like once a week or so.
