Hey guys!

I was wondering if any of you have ever had to deal with your check engine light coming on after installing headers? I can drive around the city and it wont come on, but if I take a short cruise down the highway, it comes on pretty quickly:dunno:. I do also have a new egr sensor hooked up to one of the collectors. Other than the headers and exhaust, this truck is pretty much stock. it currently has a 305 tbi (for now:rolleyes:) paired to a 700r4.

Thanks!

Check the hose going to the EGR. I had a problem with the CEL coming on and it turned out the hose had a crack and wasn't operating the EGR correctly. If necessary you can replace the plastic one with some regular rubber vacuum hose.

Have you read the code it is throwing? Knowing the code will help you pinpoint the problem.

A common problem with headers is that the O2 sensor doesn't get hot enough or quickly enough, which is why a heated 02 sensor is recommended when installing headers.

The reason it may not be coming on around town is that the engine isn't getting hot enough to come out of open loop operation.

Do the A/B trick with a paperclip, figure out which code you are getting.

Should have no problem going closed loop in and around town unless the O2 is bad, but that code should trigger regardless of speed, etc.
