I had like 45 minutes of my lunch break left yesterday at work and I was bored so I grabbed a piece of chrome stock off the shelf and started messing aorund in one of the lathes...

Ever since I moved my cb up under my dash I haven't had a TC shifter handle b/c the stock one was too tall and hit the cb.

I machined it down from a 1.750" piece of chrome shaft then chamfured all the edges...next I used the knurling tool and pressed the pattern into the larger part...next I ground down one of the tool bits we use for our portable line boaring and mill work so it was just a tiny point...chucked it up and used it to put the small parts in the lower section just for some decoration...
Then I cut off the extra in the chop saw, faced the top of it and finally I drilled and tapped the end 7/16" NC so that it would just thread on to my TC shifter...

I think it turned out pretty cool and is a heck of a lot better than paying $20 for one at the parts store :)

Ok onto the pics...

Good job. Have you considered drilling it a little deeper? Looks like screwing it down another 1/4" will cover the gap you have between the handle and the arm, shaft, whatchamacallit:dunno: dealie:crazy:

Really nice job avery! looks really clean and well made!:D

its cool.

but I agree that you should drill and tap it further or at least cut the shifter hadle down.

Yeah I will but like I said it was on my lunch break on Friday and although they are really relaxed I don't want to "take advantage" of the situation by doing personal stuff while they're paying me...

Monday when I'm there during lunch I'll pull it off and drill/tap it a little deeper...
