I've got a pair of 062s a buddy hooked me up with I'd like to know more about before dropping them on my 350. How much does it run to have them checked out and how extensive to go with it?

Common checks are for head sealing surface warpage, pressure checking for cracks, magnafluxing for cracks, vacuum testing valve seats (assuming they are loaded) and visual inpection of valves, guides, seats, springs, retainers, and locks. There is also a way to check spring pressures. Pretty much find a good cylinder head guy/ machine shop and let them have a look.

The heads have the valves, springs and rockers on them. He told me they came off a running truck when a buddy of his upgraded. I'm mostly interested in the basics but don't even know what those are :what: since I'm experienced with repairs not so much with upgrades.

So those are vortec heads that you got. Good gain in power but the negative is that your intake manifold won't fit anymore. Vortec head intake bolts go straight in instead of at an angle...

Your gonna want to tear them all apart before you take them in or they'll charge you to do it. Also a good power wash will help as well. Last time I had my heads Mag'd was 2009 or so and it was $50-80 I believe but not 100% sure...

I had some heads hot tanked not to long ago, I left the valves(and springs obviously) in. They did not charge me extra but did not remove them either. After i got them back there was an obvious crack in one of the chambers. I'll check the price when I get home.

Kinda defeats the purpose if you leave all the valves, seals, springs, washers, & retainers in while they are washed....:yikes:

I figured I'd have to take the springs, etc off wasn't sure about valves. With my 'allowance' I'll probably have to keep it real simple like just mag'd for cracks and maybe the deck plane. This is my daily workbeast so not alot of leeway for downtime. Almost tempted to sell the L31s and Air Gap and buy more urgent parts like body mounts and cancer repair, these just landed in my lap for $100 from a friend who needed cash fast. This crate 350 already pulls the 'burban around pretty well for a heavy beast but hey who wouldn't like more torque ?
