Cherokee steering shaft

So I read online of an upgrade and wanted to see if anyone has done it. Taking the steering shaft from a 84-94 ( correct me if I'm wrong) Cherokee and replacing gm one.

unknown. I was searching for an older thread here that had some details. The XJ all appear the same to me. Mine came from a fuel injected xj and I dont particularly remember much remarkable about it. Search here for XJ steering shaft and there ought to be some information to guide you.

More or less, I seem to remember it being 86-95, but just get a 87-93 and it'll work

I read somewhere online where you heat up the shaft so it would melt the 2 plastic inserts so column would collapse. And just grease shaft before installing. True?

That is correct. Hammer may or may not be necessary.
