Chevy 1 ton rear drive shaft into 7" travel front shaft, 1350

Yeah I'd imagine. I just like busting out the tig whenever I can use, still haven't gotten to the point of being able to use filler yet

I preheated it pretty good, enough that it vaporized my spit instantly. Not sure if that was the best way but I thought it would help. Also, I let it cool down covered in sand as pictured, probably took at least 45 min to get to workable temps.
 
After doing more research, the superflex joints aren't good for speed, which I kind of figured, just never looked into it

So I'm just going to use 1350 and limit the down travel

I'll keep you posted on how much I have to limit it

I'm running 2.5" up travel on the shaft, I've got bumps so I think it will be fine
 
If it couldn't be welded, then how were these driveshafts assembled in the first place?

Like already said they are a cast piece.I have built many a driveshaft with just my mig and no problem.But when I tried to do this the weld was very porus and broke easily.I picked up some high nickel rod for my stick welder.So I am going to try it again.
 
It welded pretty decently. I've got a bunch of yokes and slip shafts and compared them and you can tell the ones that are cast, I believe this is actually forged, unless the casting lines wore off.

It welded nicely also
 
The flange on the left isn't giving me enough angle to run, I'm going to have to something about this, It will probably involve more machining. I'd probably just run the factory front CV, but the tube coming from the spline is pretty big and the factory front shaft is much smaller.

Either than or run a superflex joint

Um sure that one from high angle driveline costs an arm and a leg. Yours was built with less cost.
 
I have a drawing and a flange that uses d60 yokes. I started making my own. Never finished it.
 
I guess the TTB stuff uses 1350 joints for axle shafts, I think I may look into that.

I think I might be able to make something from that.

I think I'll try to superflex joint first, thats the easiest and cheapest at this point.

The axle shafts will probably end up costing me $60 from the junk yard

I imagine that flange from HAD is at least $200, I'm into this shaft for $45 so far

IIRC, I got it from you years ago and that is what I am running now. If you don't mind can you email it me. It was on my other computer that crashed and I have no clue what ever happened to the print out I made. I have access to the equiptment now to make them myself and want to make a new front shaft. i'll have to look for the drawing. i have the piece somewhere in my pile of parts, i can just dig it out and get measurements again.
