What were the gearing options on a 2005 chevy 2500hd. 6.0l gas, 4x4, extended cab, auto. Also how do i check what is has? Is there a code in the glove box? If so what are the codes?

Thanks!
jason

When I bought my 07 Silverado Classic 2500HD 6.0 auto trans new I was told unless specially ordered they all came with 4.10`s Mine also has a locker which I dont think is standard unless it had the tow package. I dont remember there being anything in the glove box or under the hood as far as a build sheet, the info was on the window sticker only. Might check the diff cover bolts for the tag or may have to research vin numbers.

look up the RPO code for gearing... I know on the '88-'98 trucks GT4 is 3.73's and GT5 is 4.10's...

If it has the 6.0L it probably has 4.10's... I believe 2500hd's with the d-max only come in the 3.73 flavor but gassers can go either way.

EDIT: After a quick google search it looks like it's the same codes on the newer trucks. So pop the glove box open and look for GT4 or GT5... I bet it'll be GT5.

the dmax ones can be either 3.73 or 4.10. Any thing with the Dmax is going to have a 11.5 and GM ones only come in 3.73 or 4.10

thanks folks.

What kind of fuel mileage does the 6.0 get? Ive googled it and get anywhere between 11mpg overall to as much as 17mpg. Is it even possible to get 17mpg cruising down the highway with a 4.10 rear end with no load?

11-15 is realistic... 17 isn't...

My 05 2500HD Ex Cab short box with a 6.0 and 5 Speed would get 14.X around town and around 16 on the highway.

When I was shopping for new trucks in '03 every single 2500HD 6.0L gas truck I looked at on the lot had 4.10's (bet I looked at 30-40 trucks at 8-9 lots) though researching showed that 3.73 was available.

The "locker" option, which it is more like a limited slip than a locker and the name just comes from the Gov-Lock moniker, was available in any truck and has absolutely nothing to do with the towing package.
