So I’m pondering my engine situation, I do like the LS swap and all but I’ve always had a heart for the good ole 350 or maybe doing a 383 . My quest is what block should I look for this something I wanna build myself just want a strong tough reliable motor .

I personally like the vortec, better material in the cylinder walls, factory roller, and if you want to upgrade the heads plenty of choices. It's still a 350ci, bolts up to anything you already have.

I just wheeled with a dude that had an lq9 in his k10.... he would rev it to 6500 through snow drifts. Listening to that made me feel all warm and tingly...

I like the tbi too I have it on my suburban.
But I ran my 97 van for a few years and I like the smooth power from the pfi.
My suburban engine is still running strong but is losing oil pressure so I am getting ready to swap a vortec 350 in it's place complete.

Don't know where you are but I've got a 97 vortec block and rotating assembly I'd sell for cheap.

Yeah shipping it to California is going to be expensive.
He can find them here cheap enough if he's planning on building it.

I'm in the same dilemma
I'm going to start looking for a mid 90s truck or suburban from the bone yards.
I've been looking at the edelbrock e street top end kit. With summit racing's max efi kit
All in all I should be right around 1500. (Minus what ever efi I go with)
To build a stroker I'm looking at 24-2500
Ls swaps my buddy just did his an he came out a little over 4k for every last nut an bolt.
Whay part of cali are you in

So I can do a later model 350 vortec and still run my 87 tbi setup ?

You want to maintain the TBI injection and harness, you can mix and match parts to get the engine to take a factory TBI injector on a Vortec set of heads and bottom end

you will likely need to have the PROM redone

PROM definitely needs to be redone, big changes with the vortec engine that will not run right with stock tbi setup

Looking into this as well. Where is a good place to get the PROM redone and do you just put the TBI intake manifold on it for the mix and match?

I’ve gotten them directly from Howell Eng

Thank you. Would you use the flex plate from the original motor or the Vortec?
The vortec I think is the same as all 86 and up 350 with on piece seal.
Someone correct me if I am wrong?
