It says "New lightweight aluminum transfer case". When I took out my t-case that looked like that it was NOT lightweight.

Yeah but was yours SILVER? :p:

Actually, it was rusted. Aluminum doesn't rust. I think I got ripped!

What's funny about that pic is that the t-case shown is a CAST IRON NP-205. Only the end cover is aluminum.

But if you think that an aluminum t-case is heavy, try to hold onto an NP-203 as you unbolt it. THAT sucker is heavy! :yikes:

Yep, that's the point that I was sarcastically making. You think that someone would catch that before it went to print? It was for an '81, I guess the first year of the 208. I've had them all out and back in. My first 203 fell to the ground and then I did the "hoist through the floor" trick to get it back in. :D

I was glad when I removed the th350/203 combo from a bud's blazer a long time ago I wasn't underneath it!!! Weighs more than a sumo wrestling team I swear!

No, no, no, no..... That just means the CASE is light weight. Once you put gears, shifters, and lube in it, well, that's a different story!!

HAHAHA!!!

The service manuals tend to be the same way...you'll see what is obviously a drawing of a pre-72 truck used to illustrate something on a '73+.

GM isn't creative. :)

yep

even service manuals are this way sometimes

and other companies like haynes, MOG they are way off base on alot of thjeir info/diagrams/illustrations

good luck

I like the part where it says able to shift from to 2 to 4 WD at speeds less than 20 mph. My 70 owners manual says any speed.

they didn't expect people in pickups to be doing a 110 back then ;). 55 is what seems to stick in my head on the newer cases. I kicked mine out of 4 hi today at about 60. Doubt that matters though since I was going out of 4 into 2. And if you are talking about a 203 wouldn't they be shift on the fly since they are full time 4x4? its already engaged, nothing to synchronize.
