girlfriends got a mid 80's chevy celeb that has a real hard time idling,

car runs perfect when its warmed up but when the motor is cold, doesnt matter if its 0 out or 90 out it wont idle and tries to die unless you feather the throttle.

once warm its good, so choke adjustment or what am i looking for

BTW, the year is pretty important. Lots of things changed on a yearly basis with these cars, so different years are known for different problems.

mid 80's was still carbed.but electronic.id be looking at the choke assymbly and temp sender.maybe o2 sensor bad and doesnt know how to tell the carb to run.

No, '85-'86 could be carbed or multi-port, and all with the 2.5 4cyl were FI. '87 2.8 got a completely different FI setup and has different things that are common to fail. Like I said, need to know the year and engine.

Check the fuel pressure, injector spray pattern, and also the cap/rotor etc.

Is the check engine light ever on?

no check engine light. car is in emaculant condition, hell the thing doesnt even have hardly any oil residue around places that would normally leak. it only has about 60k on the OD and with the shape of the car i dont belive it has turned over.

when ya start it you hold down the gas and it fires right up, then you have to feather it for about 5 mins and then it runs fine on it own. like i said once warm it runs like a top. no hiccups or anything and you can shut it off and fire it back up without touching the gass after that.

When you hold down the gas, does it have to be to the floor? Or just a little bit?

Kinda sounds like the IAC valve is not working. The 2.5 normally idles a little high on a cold start.

Oh, and a-body.net is a good place for help and info... yes, there's a group for these cars, hehe.
