Anyone got one? I'm thinking about getting one. Gas mileage figures look pretty solid and I miss having a 4x4 daily driver. What's everyone's opinion?

Get one and make it a pre-runner. :D I kinda like the looks of them. THey kind of grow on you. A slammed SS street version with a supercharger would be pretty bad azz as well.

Yea I want anything that's 4wd for a DD. Test drove a 09 z71 today so that didn't help LOL

At my side job working in a muffler and brake shop, a state cop brought in his 08 4x4 z71 colorado extended cab.....it was nice, orange with 265 on it. He told me when i changed his oil that it gets the same gas mileage as his 06 1500 z71 silverado did....and he wished he wouldnt of gotten the smaller truck if he knew the mileage was the same....The guy up the street from me had 2, the first one gm bought back it was that bad(motor problems)... the 2nd he has is ok so far so good, but its 3 months old.. on the other hand a lifted one with 35s runs around and it looks real good...

I've also heard the mileage sucks for such a small truck.I personally would not trade three cylinders for 2 more MPG's. I also don't know how GM calculates their mileage but my wife's 07 tahoe that was rated at 20 gets about 15:confused:

As mentioned they get horrible mpg for what they are. On the plus side I hardly see them in for warranty work and you can get the 5.3L v8 in them.:pimp:

i had one rented for a couple weeks, its like driving a sports car, the seats are way to close to the floor. i hated it. armrest is too far back so you cant rest your elbow and change the radio without holding up your arm. also the stupid blinker sound irritated the hell out of me.
i got 18 mpg and it was a 2wd four door one. it was pretty damn fast and was a good jumper :D

Most of the places I've read rate the mileage at 22-24 mpg highway. I have a 45 minute (95% expressway) commute every day, I'd be happy with that.

Do they have the 5.3 out for em already? Be nice instead of the inline 5 they put the inline 6. A 5.3 colorado would be pretty cool

That is an EPA number that comes from a specific drive cycle, driver input changes things alot. I have managed to get as low as 12 MPG in my V6 Oldsmobile and in the same car i can see 30 on the highway. It really depends on how you drive the car. I managed 20 MPG in my k-5 on the highway

I like them and they ride pretty nice to me. Descent power, etc. but, I was very disappointed in the mpg when I saw the sticker. And, if that is what the sticker says... I know I would get a lot lower than that.

Its terrible that they get the same mileage, or worse than my '03 S-10 4cyl. And the engine it is a 20 yr old design.

Yeah my dad looked into those. Also looked into the older s-10 before they changed over and ended up buying a Ford Ranger like this one (http://www.truckresources.com/images/ford-ranger.jpg)for $13k i think like 2 years ago. Drove it everyday (200miles+round trip) for atleast a year then got new job. 20+ mpg

Rolled it back early in the winter. Insurance gave him $10k i think and he bought it back for $800. Fixed it (cost about 2-3k) and it drives just as good as it did when he bought it. Looks even better with the new paint. No driveline issues.

They seem be pretty good trucks even though i never really liked Fords :dunno:

I cant complain about my S10 one bit. I got it for $9600 or so after rebates and stuff back in the very end of 2003. I still drive it daily. 145k miles as of now. I get a consistent 24mpg in the summer and 22mpg in the real cold part of winter. Kind of low for a 4cyl, but not too bad for a little truck I guess. Been pretty much trouble free.... well, not pretty much... it has been trouble free.

Do a search on here for "Canyon" and "Colorado". Myself and someone else had threads about them early last year or so. Didn't get great reviews. I joined a Canyon/Colorado enthusiast forum about the same time and was asking for my brother...got very lukewarm reviews even from owners. Many were unimpressed with the gas mileage. The gas mileage numbers most were giving are within a few of what some of my friends with newer 4.8L and 5.3L half ton 4x4 Silverados are getting.

I currently am driving a Canyon black, 4dr. That little b**ch has a got soem balls. It is fast for a 5 cylinder truck.

I am really impressed with it. Not sure on mileage though. Just rented it yesterday.

Colorado/canyon review

hi there! new contributor here-- this thread caught my eye and i wanted to add a helpful review:

I drive a 2004 Canyon, the first year of GMT355 truck.

Overall Review: EXCELLENT

I love this truck! it has the inline 5-cyl 3.5L, so it is rather gutless in terms of acceleration but its not really a big problem. Features and ametities in the interior are very cheap and rather limited, especially on the early years of this truck, but thats still beside the point.

Not so great off-road due to ground clearnce issues and IFS, but otherwise, pushbutton 4WD is great!

The best part of this truck is its mechanical construction! The Colorado/Canyon was a joint venture with Isuzu, and lots of engineering was put into it. The engine is very strong! There was a bulletin from GM listing cylinder head issues in a run of them, but these have seemed few and far in between.

I work in a GM dealer and rarely see them in the shop- that's why i bought one! I have put 10,000 miles on mine since purchase and have done a 30K service and an axle seal. Every other issue has been a known concern and is easily fixable by a dealer.

So, overall, EXCELLENT truck all the way around, as long as you're not looking for luxury...:wink1:

5.3L available for COLORADO/CANYON

Also... the 5.3l isnt available in the Colorado/Canyon. It was canceled.

not true. New for 2009, the 5.3L is available as a standard feature for the sport package Colorado, and as an option for every other model...

i hear they freakin RIP!!!:D

Well I got to drive this one for a few weeks on the job, about 120 miles a day on gravel, dirt, mud, snow, and pavement. Decent little truck overall, and quicker that you'd expect with the I-5. I also got to drive the '09 silverado with the 5.3 for a few weeks. Took the odometer from 500 miles to 4600 miles. :D I would like to add that a 5.3 in a colorado really would be something. :eek1: I liked the roomy full size, but gas mileage did suffer noticeably. Spent a lot of time driving each day, and I burned a LOT more gas in the silverado. The colorado wasn't really cramped for me either, but I'm no giant. That colorado drove REALLY smooth too. I kept finding myself going 15-20mph faster than what I thought I was going, had to be careful about that. One of those creepers you know?
