I have searched this forum and others and all I can find is conflicting information. Finding any nv4500 transmission around me is about impossible but a short tail shaft 2wd Chevy nv4500 just popped up. From one source I can swap tail housings, cut the threaded portion off of the main shaft and I am ready to hook it up to my np208c.
From other postings I read that the whole main shaft must be swapped out which makes an already over priced transmission not affordable for me.
If anyone has personal experience please let me know. Here is a picture of the transmission.

Yup not that easy. I had one years ago and wanted to do same thing, and would have to tear whole thing down to swap main shaft. Then it went thru the flood of '06, problem solved lol......

But is that it? Tearing down a 4500 isn't a problem nor is reassembling it.

I can find them here for 200-400$. I can get a main shaft for 150$. That's a cheap 4500.

This is the problem, there are so many different opinions out there that it's hard to find hard facts or someone that has done this. They all run 1000-1500 out here.

My local trans supplier will take a chevy as a core for a dodge on a situational basis for guys doing cummins swaps amd 4x4 swaps. Get a whole new trans with warranty and its about the same overall cost in the end.
