Chevy's in the wild

I can't tell if the owner of that rig is so old and out of date that it's pathetic, or so young and hip that it's ironically cool and classic.

Appears to be.
I've seen it before in town, and I believe bit has hydros... Could be individual air, but I think when I seen it it was all but 3 wheeled.
One corner at the ground, opposite as high as possible. Sitting next to a mid 60's impala IIRC.

Correct.
The big block hood had the stinger scoop come back and over the cowl some, also the studs for the “427” numbers on the side of the stinger.

I don't know anything about old Corvettes. What's the giveaway that it's a big block?
And since it’s a big-block ‘67 Vette they came offered in four different flavors - three of them had those sexy 3x2 Holley carb setups and the fourth only had a single Holley 4Bbl but it was BEAST !

427 L-71 3x2 ( basically an L-72 with three two barrels ).
427 L-89 3x2 ( same as an L-71 but with early model L-88 aluminum heads ).
427 L-68 3x2 ( basically an L-36 oval-port with three two barrels on it ).

And then there was da’ King 427 L-88 with just one measly Holley 4Bbl on it - since there was only twenty of these made, and are now worth millions and millions of dollars, it’s probably safe to assume it’s not one of these.

Hey Tom my research materials suggest slightly different engine combos….from lowest hp (427{s only)
L-36/390hp, 10.25:1cr, oval iron heads, hydraulic cam, single Holley 600 cfm 4bbl
L-68/400hp, same as L-36 w 3x2bbl
L-71/435hp, 11.0:1cr, rect iron heads, solid cam, 3x2bbl
L-88/430hp, 12.0:1cr, rect alum heads, solid cam, single Holley 850 4bbl. Not available until 2/67.

L-89 rect aluminum head option (same as L-88 casting) only available as an option on the L-71 engine, but did not change engine hp rating. Available in 2/67. Only 16 cars with this option added!

I didn’t realize that the L-36 was offered in ‘67 on the Vettes since it was, like you said, the base for the L-68.
I thought the L-36 was left off the Vette option list from ‘67~’69 ( just like they did the rectangular port L-72’s & single 4Bbl versions of the L-89’s giving all promotions to the 3x2 versions of each ?

Good to know!

Funny how the 3x2 L-89’s are rarer than the L-88’s.

Just for useless trivia knowledge did GM still offer the L-36’s on the ‘68 & ‘69 Vettes too ?

I didn’t realize the L-36 was offered for all three years - I should’ve checked in with a C2 Vette professional/owner from Kalamazoo !

As far as the three ‘69 ZL-1’s go I’ve seen pics of a yellow one with black stripes and a white one with black stripes ( at least I think the white one had some stripes ) but what did the third one look like ?
