Don’t get to see many ‘82~’84 Z28’s being driven regularly nowadays - this one was most likely an ‘82 model ( assuming everything is OEM still ) since the gear shift pattern indicated a 4-spd which should only be a 1982 year model thing.
Any of y’all 3RD generation F-Body gurus correct me if I remembered this wrong?
Was driving down the road and noticed a really nice look’n square at a small car lot than I saw the outline of a 14-FF and my first thought was C-20 with a 454 so I hit the brakes and double backed to check it out.
Turns out to be a small block truck but that confused me so I looked closer and I think it’s a pieced together ride.
It’s gotta SM-465, two-piece carrier bearing type driveshaft, 14-FF with 13” brakes and a hefty ten-leaf spring pack and a camper package decal on the door.
All this would indicate that it should be a RPO “C6P” equipped truck but the VIN gives it a less than 8600 GVWR and an “H” for an engine code that’s a 305 - all pointing towards the light-duty C-20 that should come with a semi-floater with smaller 11” brakes and a much lesser spring pack.
Whatever they did the chassis hardware all looks legit and unmolested and properly weathered for its age - I’m guessing there’s been a VIN swap happened ( dash cover prevented seeing the dash VIN location but in the glove box was the proof of insurance paperwork ).
The old Tow Truck that is now an advertisement aid has been in that area forever - it was still in use as a wrecker back in the early 80’s before it was retired and sat for decades and decades - and now it sits in a different spot with a sign attached to it… better than being scrapped.
