Looking at buying a bow for my oldest son. He is only 6 so it can not be a 40lb bow. Just wondering if anybody as had any experience with them and what different options you all can come up with that i havent found.
What i would like to find is a bow that is adjustable from about 25 to 40lbs draw wieght so that when he is able to hunt he can use this bow since oklahoma laws say 40 is the minimum.

I would not worry about getting him a hunting bow right now. Unfortunatlly bows are not a one size fits all ages and size thing. They must fit your strength, height, and draw length. For Now. Just get him a good starter bow set for his age and size. Then teach him how to shoot good. Then get better heaver bows as he grows into them.
When he is old enough to hunt is the time to get him the right hunting bow for his size and Draw length.
If you buy him a bow that does not fit him or is too hard to draw and hold. He wont be able to shoot it well and may become totally discouraged with the sport.
Unless your son is a real He Man. A good starter bow for him would be around 10 lbs. At 6 years old. He would have a very hard time shooting a bow with 25lb draw weight.
When my kids were young I started them off with a small compound.
Go to the link below, scroll down the list and check out the Explorer or Sharpshooter set here:http://www.beararcheryproducts.com/bows/youth/
They are good bows for a small kids. Easy to draw and hold. Plus it is a compound like the "Big" bows.

Thanks for the reply Thunder.
I have no intention of getting one he cannot shoot easily. He has a little bow that is 10lbs but it is not adjustable from there. He has no problems pulling it back(he is rather large and strong for a 6yr old) and is a really good shot with it. I want to give it to my soon to be 5yr old son( who is almost as big as his brother just not very cordinated :D) and buy a better one for the older boy with a little more adjustment and a little more lbs of pull.
I found these bows last night after making this thread and i really like the panther bow. It is adjustable from 20 to 50 lbs and draw length from 17 to 27 inches. I just need to see if he can draw a 20 lb bow easily enough to shoot it comfortable so i guess now i am on a hunt for someone local with a kids bow that is 20 lbs to try out.
The phantom bow is probally just right for him right now with 14 to 24 inch draw length and 10 to 25lb pull but if he can pull 20 easily enough then the panther will last him a long time.
Heres the link http://www.whispercreekarchery.com/products_youth.htm
Hell, might just buy both since the daughter will be able to pull the 10lb bow back in another year or two:D
Let me know what ya think of them and thanks again for the input.
