the platform= 1983 blazer 6.2l diesel

the plan.
keep the 6.2l
swap the 700r4 with NV4500 and ?(suggestions)? transfer case
4 inch lift 35 inch tires
one ton axels (dana 60)
turbo kit for 6.2

that is all i have so far. i think this will be a reliable and fun trail truck. i wont have to worry about water crossing, i will get good gas milage and i should be able to pull my friends out of sticky situations.

what do you guys think.??

I will CHIME in.

If you are going the length of swapping in an NV4500 might as well put a double behind it.

If you run 5.13s and say a 42 or so you wont even need overdrive so you could use a TH400 or an SM465 for the real deep first.

this is what i am looking for. i dont know how the doubler thing works. i think you are talking about matting two tcases together to have more gear options and what not but i have no ideahow to do this. could i do it with any two tcases?

as far as the gear ratios you were talking about that is kind of gibberish to me. i am pretty good at wrenching but i am not an expert at mix and matching parts.

i am pretty sure i can swap the auto for the manual and the sm465 is cheaper than the nv4500 so if i can go that route i am fine with it.

i dont want to spend ten grand on this mod i just want a nice reliable strong trail rig that will pretty much go anywhere with out much worries. It is not a daily driver so i am not too concerned with freeway travel.

thanks foryour thoughts feel free to write some more. i only want to do this once.haha

I say go with the sm465, 1 tons, 39.5"-42" tire, 5.13s, and for lift do a shackle flip in the rear with a zero rate and 52" spring swap up front :D

You would use an NP203 backhalf (tailshaft?) and a NP205 not sure on specifics think im right though after all I am a noob this could be completly worng but someone will chime in

Nope you use the front half of the 203 (just the range box portion) and an aftermarket shaft with adapter to mate it to a NP205.

To the OP. If you are just looking for a reliable trail rig then I would go with poster #4. The SM465 is bullet proof and if you are not worried about freeway travel no OD is not an issue. I thought I saw another post by you about a donor truck that has a 465 w/205 that will bolt right up to your 6.2. If you are set on 35s then I would suggest 3.73s or 4.10s for your axle ratios just to keep the 6.2 from screaming at 65 MPH.

the donor truck has sm465 and np205 but i have not bought it yet. i did however find this deal online what do you think it is a lot cheaper than buying a donor truck.

Compound low SM465 4 speed and NP205 transfer case from Chevrolet truck. Worked good when removed. Gear oil is clean, uncontaminated and smells delightful! Great for crawler truck/Jeep/Landcruiser project. Tim (951) 323-7271.

also i am not set on 35s i have 33s on there now and they are fine. it was just a thought for later down the road.

and woundnt bigger tires keep the rpms lower rather than higher? sorry if that is a stubid question.

so are you saying i could run bigger tires. my truck is the slowest thing on the planet right now and i dont know if it could even get on the freeway if it was any slower.:D

as for now i just want to get the drive train going. also if i buy that above set up i am guessing i will also need clutch, flywheel, pressure plate? is this true?

if you are running a 700r4 now you will want to be careful about bigger tires, what gears do you have in your axles now? I am running a 350/700r4 with 3.73 gears and 35" tires and it is killing my tranny.

i have a 700r4 in there now but i blew it up. it has no more 3rd and 4th gear. i still have 1st 2nd and reverse.

so i am going to swap to a SM465/np205 for the manual trans with the 6.2 diesel. i think this will get a lot more performance and just be more enjoyable and reliable.
