im looking at buying a chip for my 88 blazer . the one im looking at is from motorvation idk yet if im looking at a stage 1 or stage 2 i heard there are some modifactions that may need to be made . can anybody shed some light on this for me iv never used one so i really dont know if it works . thank

Brian Harris @ TBIchips.com.

He can custom burn them, to your EXACT spec's.
I have one, and after adding the MSD ignition, and the few upgrades my motor has...
It's the only way to go...

A chip will really wake yer rig up!
(If you already have mods done.)

so what kinda mods are we talking about ? iv heard a lot such as thermostat that it. then iv also heard you have to basicly rebuild . only mods iv really got right now is a new top end and air charger . what mods should i look into ? thanks

My motor has a slightly higher duration cam in it.
I forgot the numbers, I have them somewhere.
I also have all MSD ignition components.

There's a whole host of possible tbi mods, on tbichips.com

I had my chip programmed to have more low end.
I don't exactly know how it works, but it made a HUGE difference in performance.

I didn't upgrade my thermostat... I just run 91 octane.

Any generic company chip like isnt going to do anything but bump timing.

Talk to brian if you do like an exhaust, intake, etc.

If you read the Injection Section you can learn to tune your own for the cost of a mail order chip. :D

There are places that can get you going with modified engines but unless you can data log for a fine tune they are just starter chips. I have tuned at least 50 mail order tunes in person, about 50% were in the ballpark (TBIChips would be here), the other %50 were not even close. :haha:

Stages are for how many mods you have done to your engine. I have a Stage 1 from a JY ECM (different company) and compared it to stock bin file. The company should be arrested for false claims of any performance gains. It had 6 very slight changes from stock for $150. :doah:

There are so many mechanical things that also need to be in order for high performance built engines, or stock for that matter you can't tune out! Fuel pressure and injector size to fuel for WOT high RPM HP, vacuum leaks, min air settings needed for idle, O2 sensor location, exhaust leaks before O2 sensor, coolant temp sensor location, basic maintenance like trying to tune an engine that has fouled plugs and sooted O2 sensor... etc...

I went with a Jet Stage 2 after going with a 1" TBI Spacer, Cold Air Intake with Open Air Filter and Flowmaster Exhaust with 3" Exhaust from the OEM Y-Pipe back and Hi-Flow Cat from Summit Racing.

I know that the Jet Stage 2 is just a base line for performance mods and hope to someday get a custom one burned so that everything is perfect....but I was able to get more throttle response, consistent idle and better fuel mileage. 14mpgs in Town and 18mpgs Highway with 33x12.50r15s and 3.73 gears running in OD on the highway with my 700R4.

The mpgs was verified with mileage from my GPS since the Odometer is off now.....your results are going to vary dependent on the mods you go with. But Jet Stage 2 has done well for me.....maybe I just got lucky :dunno:

I went with a 160 T-stat, then a 180 T-stat and am back to the OEM T-stat which I believe is a 190 and got best results running the OEM T-stat for the TBI

sandstorm, where in Colorado Springs are you at? I'm not far from the Springs just 6 miles up Hwy 24 from Manitou Springs actually.......there are a lot of great guys from the Colorado Springs area here on CK5 that all could help you locally. Let me know if I can help with anything!
