Going to be buying a chop saw in the near future. Been looking at dewalts thru the mac tools dealer that comes to by shop. Was just on there website and they list a multi cutter that uses a blade instead of a abrasive disc. Any one have experience with multi cutters? What chop saw do you guys recommend

How much you going to be cutting?

If not alot then probably not worth it

I like the multi cutter saws more than a chop saw. Better cuts (straighter). Haven't used one alot.

As much tubing as I hope to need to cut in the future I am looking at wet saws now. Will just keep on using the good old abrasive blade chop saw for now.

In all reality I will probably buy a multi cutter saw before the wet saw.

Can the multi cutter blades be put in the regular chop saws? Went to home depot tonight and looked at chop saws. The Dewalt saw's miter only goes one way 45. The ridgid goes both ways 45 degrees. Leaning towards the ridgid. There the same price.

I use a Milwaukee chop saw from the home depot and just recently switched from abrasive to a bi-metal and it's awesome. I also have a Scotchman cold saw with a auto vice at work and it's even more awesome:D

i've been beating the snot out of my 14" Rigid for a couple yrs now... (boy, that sounds bad! :haha:) no complaints.. and it was the cheapest brand...

Chop saw

I have been using a Dewalt 14" abrasive chop saw for over 15 years now. The first thing to go is the clamp, it gets in the way. The angle plate can be adjusted to 45* either way.
We use them at work & every once in a while we get random other name brand but they never last as long as the Dewalts do.

The cool thing about mine is that you can take off the chain & open it all the way & plunge cut with it kind of like a giant skill saw.

Porta bands are nice and very versatile if you use the base. If you were to buy one tool it wouldn't be a bad idea at all to buy a portaband with the base.

Now that's a sweet setup. I've seen the plates that convert them to a vertical band saw but that just isn't going to work for most of what we do. But being able to convert it to a baby horizontal band saw is pretty sweet.

Just to add to this thread I bought a Dewalt chop saw when I got my welder a little while back and I can't complain. The disc even seems to last quite a while as well. I made my whole welding cart and it ate it up a little but not much and that was a lot of cuts.

the only real disadvantage is not being able to tension the blade a bit more.

Bandsaws are nice cause they cut straight and clean. Porta bands still cut good but nowhere near as straight as a decent well adjusted band saw.

Although I have never used a Porta band in this configuration. From using them I would think it would be the case.

Anyone ever used a porta band in a stationary cut off role?

I have the Dewalt multiple cut saw, got it after burning up a 12+ year old Ryobi abrasive. The problems with the Dewalt, A: the table and clamp suck ass, the clamp is angled and pushes your part up away from the table so it won't stay straight and the stamped steel table has a slight curve to it. B: the damn thing spins way to fast, 1200 RPMs
I wanted a porter cable but they are no longer available. They had a solid clamp, cast table and only 600 RPM for cleaner cuts, the Dewalt cuts look like they've been chewed off.
