So Ive been thinking about chopping up a fiberglass top since I converted my suburban to a blazer top. I want to get the back end of a standard cab truck for the rear window and metal around it and graft it into almost a tonneau for the rear end of my truck. It will be romovable of course. Anybody chop up a top? I was wondering if they have a internal metal structure or whats inside before I dive into this. Any pictures?

When I chopped mine I didn't encounter anything, I chopped it up in pieces to dump it.
I didn't cut into every inch of it but I did cut it in 3 foot sections.

I was under the impression there were some metal supports in the tops. I have not cut one up but I remember a thread on here where someone wanted to do a "safari" style top out of one but was not sure of how to reinforce it after cutting through the metal supports.
Again I am not sure but I do remember someone else saying there were.

I cut mine to bits to toss it as well. There were 2 or 3 metal supports that ran across it IIRC.

So thaaaaaaaaaaaats why your truck is topless in every pic I see of it.

:doah:Indeed.

I have a soft top at my parents' house though.:D It's used, but I'll be pickin it up this weekend to see what it's gonna take to get it on there.

there's metal. be careful. i cut one up with a circular saw, but i didn't go near the metal components (at front and rear, across its width.)
