Can these be removed and not effect the seals or the windows themselves? My Chrome around the center of the seals looks like crap and id jus assume yank it. I know there will be an empty channel, but its gotta look better than rusted pitted chrome trim.

Thanks

yes they take a 5.5 mm wrench, i just had to take mine off for paint

hmm, not sure we are talking about the same thing. I have a 84 K5. The chrome that im talking about goes in the center of the windowshield seal and it looks like there is jus some kinda clip in the middle.

You can't just pull it, it's what puts tension on the windshield and body sealing surfaces.

You need to replace it. My recommendation? Go to a wrecking yard or ask on here, for the stock non-chrome black piece. Since it's a solid piece of black plastic/rubber/whatever, it doesn't rust, peel, etc. like the other stuff. Very easy to find, reusable.

Ok thanks.

No problem. The "chrome" strips in my topper window gaskets are going one of these days, whenever I quit being lazy and install the black ones I've got. :)

that reminds me i gotta do mine. the chrome peeled and none of the other windows have chrome around them

LMC sells replacements, i hear they are easy to take out but a bitch to put back in

You can still get the black "reveal molding" (the GM name for them) from GM. The chrome strips have been discontinued, but you can get those from LMC Truck. They're made somewhere in far-east Asia, but I couldn't tell any difference from OEM. I just put one in the other day, and it worked like a charm. You'll definitely need one of those special tools designed for the job though, or you'll be at it the whole day with a pair of screwdrivers.
