I have my 2 yellow top batteries located in the back of my k5. Have 0 gauge welding cable running down the frame rails up to the engine compartment to a battery cut off switch. From there to the k5 electrical and front winch.

Worried that if a short happens somewhere in the cable from the batteries to the switch the k5 will become a nice fire ball. Would like to put a large fuse or circuit breaker somewhere close to the batteries, but don't know of any that will handle the draw of the winch. Does anyone have any ideas what I could use?

I would put in a big ass BUS fuse. This is what came with my HELLROARING Isolator kit for my dual batts.

Here is the rest of the system. The red wire at the top is coming from the starter, the other one is coming from my aux battery.

I all ready have a big switch at the firewall. just would like something closer to the batteries that kicks itself off on its own. Thinking of just running the cable through PVC pipe.

we run 500 amp ANL fuses for the winches and bowthrusters on the boats.... good stuff...

I would start with the 150 amp fuse mentioned above. I use these for my dual battery circuits and winch feeds, both front and rear. I have stalled a Warn 12K winch and it did NOT blow the fuse. I would be hesitant running a 500 amp fuse. You want the fuse to blow before your entire truck melts. lol :eek1:

that is my delema... mine will draw 460a!!!!!!!!!!:eek1:

Well, it's a question of for how long... a 150A fuse, for instance, requires more than 150A for some period of time before it blows... so the 460A for your winch prolly isn't continuous, so gets complicated. It might never run high enough long enough to blow a 300A fuse, for example.

Dontcha love electricity?

Ran mine through 3/4 heater hose....

my switch is going to be right outside of the battery box and the shutoff handle / rod will be reachable from the drivers seat....
