Is there any differences between the military and civilian K5's? Other than the Diesel, interior, and paint? I hear from some that the 10 bolts in them are a little beefier than usual.

Military and civilian 10 bolts are both pieces of ****:D . J/K Not really any difference in the two. 10bolts are 10 bolts I think in 89 they went from 28 spline to 30 spline that is about as beefy as it gets.

The Mil ones had the tow shackles poking through the bumpers, plus a slave receptacle, black out lighting and rifle brackets. And the camo paint, but you already knew that...

I'd like to have one for a DD.

CUCV Blazers, M1009's, have different bumpers, shackles -- not for airlifting, but okay for recovery -- blackout lights, goofy dual-alternator half-12-and-half-24-volt electricals, and a TH400 tranny not otherwise available in Blazers. Otherwise, yep, they're just a diesel K5.

The rear 10-bolt will often have a Gov-lock in it, but otherwise the axles are the same as the civvies, and have 3.08:1 diffs.

Now, the *other* CUCV's, the pickup ones, have the coveted D60/14BFF axles, etc etc, but we've gone over that recently...

I keep seeing about these blackout lights. Are they external? All the lights I've seen on the CUCV's look the same as the civvies.

They're on the outside corners of bumpers. There's also the one in the grille on the side that isn't the slave connector. I put foglights on mine there, so I can only show you pix of the bumpers...

What a black out light is basicly just a low watage light. just enought to show you the vehicle in front of you and the one in the grill is deflected towards the ground.
Here is the inner grille light.

There were plenty of Blazers in the 70's that had 400/TH400/203 combos stock.

You sure? My '77 has a 400ci, with a 350/203 behind it. I thought the TH400 was reserved for 3/4's & 1-tons.
