ck5 slow death? google trends decline

I only keep my Facebooks to browse for parts in marketplace because there isn't much in Craigslist anymore. I agree with you trying to find post again on Groups is difficult and most peoples responses to tech questions on groups is garbage. At least that's what I found in the diesel groups when I had my powersmoke.

LS1Tech is a huge forum and has discussed this at length. They've seen huge downturn - nobody has the patience for searching, and/or literary skills to be able to actually read. social media really is the death of everything. It's a drag on society as a whole.

I do the Facebook thing but typically only what shows in my feed, discussions on Facebook simply don’t happen, the exchanges of ideas is minimal. I post a question here and it actually gets answered. Even noob stuff is taken friendly here.

here you can ask a question and get a knowledgeable answer, FB i see people asking "noob" questions and getting MANY different wrong answers from "noobs". not saying noobs are bad, but just not the wealth of knowledge

I remember when the ColoradoK5 webpage didn't even have a forum section! That was back in the mid-90's when Steve started it to track the build of the original K5 (how many people remember that?). Brown and white 2-tone K5. 10-bolts with an ARB in the rear, 35" BFG AT's....it was hardcore at the time. The build progressed to the point it went to a full tube body, and that was about the end of it. I've gotten a LOT of good info out of this site over the years and helped build my '90. It's still sitting in the shop but hasn't been on the trail for years now, but still pop in here a couple times a week to glance around, but as already said there is only so many "how big of a tire" questions you can stand.
Facebook and other social media just can't replace forums like this for tech info. My biggest gripe on other forms is how difficult it is to find any old posts talking about a certain subject, or even follow a recent post or discussion.....you read the post once and then try to find it an hour later and it's gone.

I've been on here longer then 2001. I lost my password to my old account.

Back in 99 there was another forum or user group on 4x4ing that posted a link to here. That is how I found out about this place. Someone had a np205 tcase parting from a rust free 72 k5. I learned about the swap to a np205 from the user group since my np203 was dead. I got the np205, th350 adapter, support braces, rock guard and misc bolts all from a low millage rust free 72 k5. I paid less then $200. He just wanted the engine. I should have taken the body. Interior was great also.

I recently got back on Facebook (without my name) just for local events and marketplace. Craigslist is forkin useless and amazingly the only way I know to get a hold of some ppl is on facefork

Another lifer here......This is a great family. From Fordum's awesome stories to ryoken's incredible knowledge and builds......And everything in between. It doesn't get any better than this.

I mean, come on......there is actually a CK5 Santa that gives away memberships. I love it. :saweet:

For my use

Facebook is the best these days for market place and Facebook messenger works really good ,especially for talking to anyone in the states because it’s free. I’m in Canada.”

Ck5 is my go to spot for entertainment and info! Only place you can get a honest answer about whatever you ask and a ton of knowledge within the group! Thanks guys! Over the years I have learned a ton and made actuall freinds.
Seems to me Ck5 is always slow in the fall. :dunno:

Plus.... I know we lost some guys because they would state their opinions....and thought their opinions are the only ones that mattered. Whatever...

I'll be here for as long as the site is around. I've meet some members in person and they've always been and still are good people.

Sadly fb has taken over for Craigslist and such. And some folks do share some very cool projects on fb but sadly it gets buried in tons of useless shit.

So I'll be staying here.

I keep facebook for the marketplace too, craigslist still has a good item up for grabs or sale once in a while, but nothing like it used to be..
As an example, early this morning an ad for "Mower" in the free section revealed an Ingersoll garden tractor with a factory plow and mower deck ,FREE!..whether it was for real,or just someone posting up fake ads ,I don't know--I was very tempted to pursue it,but the ad had been "up" for 30 minutes--by then 25+ people were probably already racing to get there first...
After being burned a few weeks ago when I drove 10 miles to pick up a free TV stand, that was not there when I arrived,I am not going to go dragging more stuff home,I already have too many tractors and no storage space left, and no ambition to fool with them like I once did--but that tractor is a $1000+ item,an Ingersoll is one of the beefiest ones ever made..

"Freecycle" and local online yard sales have reduced a lot of the items you used to see on craigslist and lately that site has been full of scammers and fake ads ,looking only to get your phone number and other personal info..

Another reason a lot of folks aren't on forums like before is many may be stuck at home "home schooling" or working from home and do not have the time to browse like they used too..

I’ll keep paying as needed.

But forums in general don’t seem as popular as they once were. Everyone uses Instagram and Facebork it seems. I relented and made an Instagram but closed Facebook 6 years ago and won’t go back. Instagram is owned by Facebork but...

Maybe ck5 needs or could make a bigger presence on instagram generate some users?

Either way I’m glad I found this place. The small price of membership has paid off ten-fold with the amount of knowledge and willingness to help. I can ask millions of questions, usually the same one worded another way, and always found help here. Hell, I pulled my transmission and Tcase for the first time and the guys here painstakingly walked me through that and putting it back in, among a myriad of other topics they helped with.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but the ones that leave and go to facebook and the gram, I feel are seeking more outward approval rather than good company. Some have left and went to Instagram where there is more traffic to get "noticed" more. I can think of at least 5-10 people.

It's all about "likes" and "followers". That's what makes you more important...

I love forums, goes way back to when I was a kid and into R/C cars and didn’t have anyone to learn from, I like to follow builds and progress and I love a good community. I joined here shortly after buying my K5 in 2017 and honestly I probably would have sold it several times if it weren’t for reading and watching this site to keep my interest up.

Coincidentally the membership dues auto drafted today, and I’ll gladly let them auto draft for years to come, I don’t post a ton but I read a butt load of these threads and I have hundreds of screenshots and notes in my folder of things that I am saving for when money and time allows. The first build I ever read was by @K85 Octane and I was hooked, read every page, I like to read them start to finish :D
