Since it came up in another thread I thought it would be worth posting the actual "rules".

Here is what our BLM stipulations say:

All animals will be kept under control. When outside of vehicles, all domestic animals must be kept on a leash. Domestic animals must remain in the vehicle in the presence of wildlife. Harassing of wildlife and/or livestock will not be allowed

Here's what Canyonlands National Park says: http://www.nps.gov/cany/planyourvisit/pets.htm

Arches National Park: http://www.nps.gov/arch/planyourvisit/pets.htm

Moab city parks:

With the exception of the Bark Park and the city pathways, there are NO DOGS or other pets allowed at city parks and park areas. Dogs are allowed parkways and trails, but your dog must be on a leash and under your control when it is on the parkway or trail within city limits.

I have been wheeling lots with dogs. I also bad the very sad occasion to run one over. Never even saw him but he ran under my truck right when I got on it. The dog was severely injured and had to be put to sleep later that day.

It was the worst day wheeling I had ever had.

Eek, I can imagine that would be horrible.

If anyone ever has any issues with our dogs behavior or their roaming around, please let us know. Our dogs are fairly well trained, have electronic collars and excellent recall. That being said, all dogs can be a-holes.

I don't worry about it but I figure it's only fair that everyone know the official rules.

One of my dogs will be tagging along this year. I'm fine with keeping him on the leash when he's outside the truck. He's never been out wheeling so I'm going to try to get him used to the Offroad thing before we head up to Moab. If he can't handle it he'll stay home.
