Today my intake has been leakin oil from the back of the block pulled it off and got that cleaned up. Decided i didnt like hte random vacuum hoses and harnesses.

Started looking and found 4sets of hoses that were broke off something, or plugged off at both ends:eek1: :doah: Then there was this harness..."huh, what the hell is that for" i look at it its for the 700r4 that was there. Yeah its gone too.
Heres a pic of the before from a while back, stock intake, q-jet. Kinda hard to see my wireing nightmare.

Half way through,

The end. Im plannin on either stretchin the msd wires longer to make the wires not as "fat" and then run loom over it to hide everything.

The removed stuff.

Now the questions...what is that ball thingy? it had a hose that was plugged off at the other end so i figured it could be pulled.

My dad is saying that somehting in the a/c and heater uses vacuum...is this true?

Its an 84 k5

That's the float. It shuts off the water after you flush :haha::haha::D:haha::haha:

Sorry, I had to :o I don't know what it does.

SH*T! haha literally!:haha: now that you say that it kinda does...except like supersized.

Vacuum booster or storage, for A/C controls.

yep. i don't know the details of it, but it's related to the climate control stuff. i'm about to fix my a/c (condenser coil) and i hope it can run without the vacuum thing, because i don't think mine is in great shape.

huh...it worked great before i started to pull all this stuff off, i had un hooked literaly everything from the motor, save the vacuum for my tranny modulator, I belive i used the a/c and it blew cold.

The only reason i pulled htat off was because its vacuum hose going to it had a bolt in it.

Climate control? is taht like emissions or the "level" of coldness/hotness.

Yup vacume ball it stores vacume to assist in opening the doors in your heater/ac box without it your vent control prob wont work (no defrost no vents no heat).

Is this the vacuum line for the heater/defroster?
vacheater.jpg

The actual line is circled in red, it is "teed" into my manifold vacuum, inline from the fitting and the vac to the modulator.

The green is where it goes into the firewall.

If not can anybody shed me some light on this subject? I searched and found that htere is supposed to be a vacuum line comin off of my a/c controls, through my firewall and then that should be connected into my engine vacuum at some point. The vacuum helps open up vents and "push" the air or whatever to defrost the windshield, Correct?

There should be a vacc port off your intake behind the carb usualy 2-3 places for the hoses. In the past i have run the trans line and the HACV line from there. You dont NEED the vacc ball but it makes the vent doors in the HACV work a little faster. If i was you id run a hose from that fitting behind the carb to the vacc ball and into your HACV, but take consiteration you can put the ball anywhere you want as long as you got nuff hose to route it.

So you don't have a Q-Jet anymore? I was going to suggest you just follow the factory vacuum diagram and hook everything up like original. Removing vacuum lines and such can cause unexpected problems. In your case somebody else disconnected them, but unless you know what each part is doing, it's best to leave it connected in the stock configuration.

I know the mess of vacuum hoses is annoying, but it does help to organize, reroute and zip-tie them so they look neat.

Now with a different carb, some of the emissions stuff won't be missed, but it's still pretty likely that some problem will arise due to something missing with EGR, AIR, TCC, EVAP, etc.

I have seriously eliminated almost all of my emissions, and trany needs for the vacuum hoses. What im lookin for is the bare bones necessity.

Easy to fix on the road kinda thing.

And no im not runnin the q-jet. Im being dead serious almost 3/4 of those wires were plugged off or broke, i literally had 1 vacuum hose coming off the manifold on a tee tied into another hose and looped back around the the original tee.:eek1:

Thats what im trying to do...i have a tee on that port, 1 goes from the port, 1 to the tranny, and the other to a vacuum line coming from the firewall...see pic to confirm if that is correct.

The line going through the firewall is for the HVAC controls. The air flappers are powered by vacuum motors. If you lose that line, you will be stuck with the air always blowing from the same location. Seems to me that will be the floor vents. The selection between outside and recirc air will also be lost. The temperature control has a cable, so at least that would still work.

Feel blessed. Have you ever looked under the hood of a mid 80's to early 90's ford? They have ALOT of hoses and wires

Yeah...my mom has a 04 psd...i got lost in its wires...and my sister just got a 94 ranger its just as bad...

Blue, are you saying that i got lucky and hooked up the correct hose? from waht i recall the last time it rained and i used the a/c it blew from all of my vents, but htis was before my unhooking of everything but the tranny. we shall see tomorrow after i get it running agian.

We need a smiley that has it like crossing its fingers in hope. haha

All you realy should need is trans, HVAC, vac advance and PCV the rest isnt realy nessisary. That looks corect but i dont think i have ever seen that 1 way valve used there. If thats what that round thing is.

As long as you are able to tune the carb under different conditions, you will be OK, but some of those vacuum powered features are useful.

oh...that was just a tee that i had pulled from the harness, it will be replaced wiht your standard tee, probaly tomorrow.

Could you go more indepth into that? From what im understanding the vacuum, helped wiht advance, heater, and cruise control, lockup converter,

I have no cruise, (anymore) the 700 is gone. Am i missing something else?
