I have an L92 LS motor from an 08 Escalade pull out. The motor and trans has about 30K miles on it and before I swap it into my truck I want to get it looking new again.

Currently it is sitting on the ground with the transmission still attached. Does anyone have any good tips and tricks to cleaning all the cast aluminum without messing anything up? I'm not where I can hose it down at the moment but I can take more time with some shop towels etc.

I just want it looking new again...

Thanks for the help

don't use any cleaner that is caustic (High ph)
Try some mineral spirits, it won't hurt any finishes but will disolve the grease and oils on the engine, it will take some hand work though.

Dawn and extremely hot water and a stiff bristle brush will get most of it

I use this stuff called Zep FORMULA 40 or is it 50. Either way some good stuff but might be hard to find as its commercial

Once you get it clean and de-oxidized, invest in some Duplicolor engine paint. I used their "aluminum" on the aluminum parts of the engine I swapped into my car, the head, some brackets and such. It will prevent oxidation from coming back and will be easier to clean when needed. And the paint pretty much looks just like aluminum and not just silver paint.

Just whatever you do, dont post pics of it all done. As im super jealous of you for finding that motor and tranny with that low of miles. Those damn things screamat the dunes. :D

Its coming along well. Elbow grease and simple green.

Sorry Dueling can't get the photo upload to work.

Here ya go :-) I can't wait to get this thing running! I only had time to do the drivers side valve cover and head along with the valley pan but it's going to looks great when I get it done.

If you have a Costco near by I found a product called oil eater. It works awsome, and completely safe. Better then simple green by three, and I like simple green.
