What is the best way to Clean the fuel injection system on my 96 pickup? It's a 4.3 Vortec with 109,000 miles on it and I think it needs to be cleaned. I looked down in the throtle body and it was pretty black. This is the SPI system not the old EFI. This is my DD/work truck so I need to keep it going.
Thanks for any info.

Brake cleaner. Usually stock cams come with a pattern that causes it to "barf" a little combustion gas up the intake and blacken the throttle blades, lol.

Valvoline has a pretty neat can of throttle body cleaner, even comes with a nice little tube permently attached to the can. It works great for cleaning stuff up.

Heres the best way to clean your injectors: Get some motorcraft (I know) pressurized fuel injector cleaner, you may need special hook ups. Well you disable your fuel pump(not the injectors) and you run the car strictly off the can of cleaner. It will run for maybe 5 minutes and then your done. Thats the best most effective way to clean it.

Another way is to mix up a solution of "Top engine cleaner" and gasoline to run off of, BUT some injectors (ie. Bosch) may chemically react to the cleaner and melt. /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

You know I remember seeing that stuff on one of those Saturday morning TNN car shows a few years back. Maybe I should go to the Chevy dealer and see if they have it. Thanks for the info.

. Listen to Bubba, use TB cleaner, and a gentle one. There is a non visable coating that allows the fuel and air to flow with ease and stop corrosion, and using anything harsh will remove it and corrode it soon. best to use NOTHING and a bunch of Q tips /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I like that stuff and the cap/nozzel is cool, I use STP carb/TBI cleaner in the tank every few months also.
