I have a couple 2" x 20' tow straps that I got from my father that somehow got covered in grease/oil and I'm tired of having to wash my hands every time I handle them. I heard that bleach and nylon are a no no. I was thinking of sneaking them into the washing machine with some laundry detergent. Does anyone know of a good way to clean them?

take em to car wash and hit em with a high pressure hose, should force the oil/grease up and out. Dont use any chemicals and let them dry really well before putting them away. I wouldnt put them in direct sunlight to dry either. Maybe in the dryer on low heat

Do not put them in your regular washing machine, the grease/oil will stick to the tub and ruin your next load of clothes....I found out the hard way.

Otherwise, take a 5 gal bucket and throw the rope in there and then add a few ounces of DAWN dishwashing soap...cuts grease and oil pretty well. let it soak for a couple days, then agitate it by calling it names (or just twist the bucket back and forth with the handle)

soak in bucket with basic blue dawn dish soap or i have used purple power with no bad effects. then hit them with pressure washer all streched out flat. then flip over and hit again.

like said hang up and let air dry. :D

Then just to show how cool you are. Take the handle of said oily, soapy water and spin it over your head to demonstrate centrifugal force. Just don't hit the garage door on the third revolution.:doah: Ask me how I know.

You saved me years of being in the doghouse.

I've already called it every name in the book plus a few I made up, I don't think it could get any more agitated.

My dad had me do that with a gallon bucket of plain water when I was a kid and I hit the clothesline - same result. I think I was set up 'cuz he couldn't stop laughing. That reminds me, I have a new experiment for my nephew to try. Gotta keep the tradition alive. :D

Thanks for all the input, looks like I'm off to the store to get some blue Dawn.

I've left really grimy greasy rags draped over a tree branch for a few weeks or longer--next time I go to use them, they are remarkably clean!...morher nature is a wonderful maid...:D

Yep, dawn works just as good as any other degreaser , just have to let it sit for longer
